Yeah. Budgies are expensive aren't they! Anyone that thinks they will be a cheap pet can think again! Devious little Boo.. That's because we love them, and don't see them as disposable. I got Boo for free, so I guess I can subtract $25 from the vet fees. LOL. There was a lovely older couple at the vet with two sick elderly little dogs. As well as seeing my vet, they had also been referred to a dog cardiologist at $250/hr just for the basic consult, never mind all the test and medicine costs on top of that. They said they were up into five figures!

Aw, poor little Boo. I hope the blockage clears quickly. Your vet is wonderful. I worry about the anesthesia. I don't do well with it, so think how a poor little budgie must feel. Good luck to you both.

Oh no poor Boo... I hope it clears up much more quickly this time. My vet told me with Bubbles that once they've been ill with it they can be susceptible to a recurrence. Lets hope this is the last of that nasty episode for Boo. At least you know he's been through worse and come out just as good as new, so he should cope fine. I hope there will be enough left in the bank to feed him (and you!!) once you've paid your vet..

I'm sorry you're going through this again Stace and hope Boo recovers quickly this time. Just as well you got him free really.... I honestly believe he was sent to you by an angel or something - someone had to know you would be willing to do all this for him! If it's any consolation, Pepito is constantly trying to chew our clothes, carpet fibres, paper tissues, books and paper - but I learned from your previous experience with Boo and don't allow it!

OMG. Just read all 19 pages of this thread.
I've seen Daley picking up the Megazorb (made from hemp stalks I think) in the pig cage - don't know if he's eaten any. Halfway through reading this thread I put him away and am now considering what to replace the megazorb with or other solutions to stop Daley eating it. This thread is a major warning.
I really hope Boo is ok. xx.

Thanks guys.
Marc (OH) has left about half an hour ago to take Buds out to the vet as I can't go this morning. It's strange without him here. I'm sitting here like an anxious mum. I gave Marc so many instructions he started rolling his eyes at me. Took Buds out in his little cage, put him in the front seat and put the seat belt on, and waved him goodbye.

Couldn't help myself and called Marc at the vets. He's still out here while Boo is being "flushed out" a couple of times. There's a big shopping mall across the road from the vet, so he's gone in to look at electronics while he passes the time. Boo is getting "flushed" twice, with about an hour between each one. I've told Marc to write stuff down precisely. If Buds has got infections, I want to know exactly what sort. Can't believe how quiet it is without Boo pestering me every five minutes.

Sorry to see this, Stace. Bloody fibres, eh! But from the sounds of things, he is better than last time, so that is one plus out of not many. Just as an aside, with the xrays, it sounds like your vet has a digital xray machine, rather than the older-fashioned type ones, hence Boo only needs to be kept still for a very short couple of seconds rather than needing to be knocked out to keep still like the older ones need.

Digital xray. Great idea, I am going to ask my vet if he has one. Thanks, Hezz.

Well. I arrived back from work meeting and buds and OH had just got back from the vet. First thing OH said to me was, Boo is oversexed. He's a sex addict just like Michael Douglas. Apparently he's pleasuring himself too often and since it's winter here, he shouldn't be. Too many sex hormones running around means he's likely to be immuno-suppressed. I'll worry about that later, I think. Buds is bouncing around like a box-o-birds right now. He's going mental. He's got a yeast and bacillus infection - so Clavulox and Mycostatin prescribed for the next 4 days. One of the outside lab test results isn't back yet, so have to call on Thursday. We go back on Saturday for another barium x-ray, a flush or two and to recheck/redo his culture test. Marc was going to take extensive notes and even bought a little notepad for the task from the mall across the road in the $2 shop. He pulled it out to start writing and Rob, the vet, looked at him as said, don't worry, just get Stace to call me in the morning. LOL.

Oh no little Boo, not again. Sorry I only caught this thread now, it seems like the vet is on top of it and hopefully Boo will be better in no time. Had to laugh at the vet having to call you, that is exactly what it would be like with us. My husband doesn't do detail vey well.
Get better soon Boo. It sounds like at least he is not feeling too poorly, but the rigours of the vet visits is not pleasant nor the meds. Also a worrying thing that he is vit D deficient. Ours must be too as there is often very little sun exposure here. I worry about that.
