Where's Munchy? We can hear him but we can't see him! In the waiting room with Gwenny-Boo. Munchy has trichomonas again. 😒 Or probably didn't get rid of it properly the last time. So back on the meds. This time he has a slightly higher dose. I'm slightly confusee though because last time I was told to treat them all, although two of them we swabbed and found to have it that time, but now because the others don't have symptoms I don't need to treat them...? It was a different vet though. This one says Munchy doesn't have a lipoma but does have... not exactly a distended crop but more like there's an abnormality there. Which is likely causing his occasional vomit. So hopefully it'll just be swelling caused by the trichomonas and getting on top of that will help. But he's had crop swabs and fecal samples sent to the labs to see if anything else is in there. Any further diagnostics would require x-rays, so we'll see what the test results say and then can weigh up risks and benefits if x-rays could be needed. Maybe after the trichomonas treatment I will see about taking him back for a check up and possibly another swab for it to see if it's been cleared up this time. I want to ask the other vet his opinion on treating the others just in case, but also feel that's a bit rude to the vet we saw today. At least Munchy is already in the other cage and can stay there whilst receiving treatment. He was sick before being separated from the others though.

Sorry to hear that Munchy has trichomonas (still or again). I hope the meds clear it up completely this time. A swab after treatment sounds like a good idea to make sure it really is gone this time. I hope he doesn't mind taking his medication too much.

Poor boy, hope it does the trick. Agree, good idea after treatment to rest again.

It's more the handling and attempting to get the syringe in his beak. After that you just squirt it in as quick as you can. Although earlier I worried that I'd choked him!
It'll be a little pricey but I might see if I can get them all swabbed after his treatment is done, before I put him back in the same cage with them. Otherwise they might just keep reinfecting each other.

The picture of the group sitting next to Munchy's carrier is very cute. It looks like they are plotting a way to get him out of there.
It's never nice having to give them medicine. How many days of treatment is it?

They are very good at looking like they're plotting! Twice a day for 7 days, so he'll be done end of next Tuesday. He is a good boy, jellybean, he just takes some persuading.

Aww, little Munchy, get better soon. I think it perfectly acceptable to ask the other vet for a second opinion. I’d phone up and ask to speak to him/her. It’ll put your mind at rest re the others.

Poor Munchy When mine were all outside in the aviary i used to treat them every year with Trico Plus as a precaution, you can buy it on line, mix it with water in bulk, keep in fridge and use daily, easy, i know Barry used to say to do it for 10 days. I would treat them all Ira its very easily transmitted through water and food.

I agree with skysmum and ariella - a second opinion is perfectly acceptable, and if treating them all works best, then sooner rather than later and peace of mind for you, as well.

Thanks ariella, skysmum and Hezz. I might take the risk of disturbing their tummy flora and start the others today, knowing what dose they need. They'll still be done then by the time I can take them for tests. It's very frustrating. :/ Edit: gave them all a dose this morning. Munchy makes such a fuss for so long after his that you worry that you squirted it down his airway.

A round of crop swabs is booked for 10:30 next Friday. OH has requested the day off again to help me out, and will probably see if he can borrow the car again. Because oh my gosh the car made things soooooo much nicer.
Struggled a bit with giving medicine this evening. I think Munchy got more on his feathers than on his beak. He kept twitching away at exactly the wrong moment.

Does your OH help you give the medicine to Munchy? One of you can give the medicine. The other can take a finger and gently ruffle his head feathers moving from the back of his head toward his nose - give him a few soft rubs. I've found that will calm them for a few seconds and then you can quickly get in there to give him his dose.

He can help me, though sometimes I find that more awkward. We can try tomorrow evening to have him hold Munchy and free up both my hands though. Munchy tends to duck his head if you touch the top of it. He doesn't even like scritches there. Worth a try though.

My little Tweetie Pie doesn't like hands at all (except if the hand has millet). I tried it with him and it worked. Hopefully it will work with Munchy - let us know.
