He can help me, though sometimes I find that more awkward. We can try tomorrow evening to have him hold Munchy and free up both my hands though. Munchy tends to duck his head if you touch the top of it. He doesn't even like scritches there. Worth a try though. When Louie had his funny little turn back in the summer, I found it much easier holding him and doing the syringe myself. It felt like too many hands when my hubby tried to help. I used a soft tea towel to hold him in one hand and he was fairly helpful with opening his beak, so I could safely syringe the Guardian Angel water in. How is Munchy in himself?

I've managed to find a reasonably reliable head grip with my thumb, index and middle fingers.
He seems fine in himself. I think he'd like to come out and play but if the others don't have anything I don't want to risk it spreading. I might get the others in earlier than usual and then let Munchy out for a while.

Munchy makes such a fuss for so long after his that you worry that you squirted it down his airway. Randolph Carter was just the same. He'd shake his head for ages trying to get the medicine out. And it was so hard getting it into him in the first place. He'd tuck his beak right down into his chest and he'd refuse to open it too. Dexter on the other hand takes medicine with very little fuss and it's over much quicker.
I'm glad Munchy is feeling ok.

Poor Munchy When mine were all outside in the aviary i used to treat them every year with Trico Plus as a precaution, you can buy it on line, mix it with water in bulk, keep in fridge and use daily, easy, i know Barry used to say to do it for 10 days. I would treat them all Ira its very easily transmitted through water and food. I might get some of that, Skysmum, seeing as it's been such a problem this year. Looks like veggies might just have to be chop in the evenings and then pieces of stuff on my days off, which is a bit of a shame especially considering I know people who'll leave dry veggies in for 12 hours and not have an issue, but I'm a bit fed up of this now and I imagine the budgies are too. Maybe the live herbs will be okay to leave in the cage. At least hungry Pippin will have something to nibble on then. Halfway through treatment. Fingers crossed they're all clear on Friday.

Oh poor little Munchy Munch! My heart goes out to you x I think he's a bit bored of being stuck in a cage by himself, though the others go to sit on the outside of the cage to chat.

In hindsight I might blame Yuki for the tricho. When I first got him he would have occasional vomits, but I didn't think much of it because it was super aporadic and just milky white rather than full of seeds. Plus he also had weird droppings that we attributed to diet change, and Gwen had similarly coloured droppings last week from the moving stress. Ah well.

Caring for budgies is an exercise in on-going learning, isn't it!

Very much so, tweetiepiesmom. Learning from mistakes, from little frustrations, from things that went well, and from the experiences of others. I'd love to avoid having to grab this lot, but they get in the way of each other so much at times, even without the medication giving. Weighing them I find it far easier to pick them up and put them in a container because if I try a bowl on the scales I always get at least one who isn't tempted enough, and other times get 3 of them fighting over the bowl. Catching and potting them is way faster. I just try to make sure we do plenty of positive hand time in between. I need to do more of that actually, just been tired lately. Fortunately we don't usually have to grab anyone to go home these days, though if they're not playing ball with bribery or being a naughty Indie then we might resort to catching them. Or like today. Today no one wanted to get on a hand to go home so I got out the millet. Got Indie and Yuki straight in. Blocked the door to stop Indie coming back out whilst I called Pippin. Pippin came over for the millet. Great. Backed away from the cage door and lowered Pippin in through the door, Indie chooses that exact moment to go for the millet from an angle that results in Pippin flying out of the cage. This then happens a second time. So I ended up catching Indie to hold in one hand whilst I put Pippin away. In hindsight, probably should have distracted Indie by putting food in a bowl, or a sprig of millet on the cage floor so that staying inside the cage was rewarded. Fortunately the budgies have learned that me holding them doesn't result in them getting eaten, it just stops them from being more trusting.

The test results for the first round came back. There were no abnormal bacteria in Munchy's droppings, but they found something else in his crop, but as he's acting normally they said to keep an eye rather than add another antibiotic. I can discuss that with the vet tomorrow though. At least I'm off work next week if they do need another course of something. Everyone's finished their Metronidazole, but I'm not mixing Munchy back in with the others until after the results of tomorrow's crop swabs, because I don't want anyone with lingering infection reinfecting the others. Too bad I couldn't separate the other 3 as well really. Having said that, Indie slipped back out of the cage last night whilst OH was putting Pippin in, and went straight over to feed Munchy. Hoping I can reunite them all tomorrow afternoon.

Definitely. Munchy's been a bit frustrated at being stuck inside, and the others have all been hanging out on the outside of the cage and napping beside him.

Sounds like Munchy is the boss Definitely. Munchy's been a bit frustrated at being stuck inside, and the others have all been hanging out on the outside of the cage and napping beside him.

And yet he's the least dominant. But everyone wants to be around him. Which also frustrates him at times when the other 3 start being dramatic near his Kevin! You can see him trying to sidle around them to get Kevin back. Sounds like Munchy is the boss Definitely. Munchy's been a bit frustrated at being stuck inside, and the others have all been hanging out on the outside of the cage and napping beside him.

Hope the current antibiotics take care of whatever's going on in Munchy's crop. They all need to be back together before Gwen joins the group so you'll only have to deal with the change in dynamics once! I'm guessing that once she learns that Munchy is the boss, she'll start changing that. Look out, Munchy!!! This is going to be fun to hear about.
