Today's weigh-day - long overdue and late getting started - has been slow going but I've had some successes. I still have six hold-outs though. Some budgies have gotten out of the habit, clearly, or perhaps they are better at managing their millet addictions.
No real surprises - thankfully!! - in the results so far but Whistle has done himself proud. He's up to 45g now and looking good. Mhoram's exercise regimen (ie, chasing) is doing a grand job of building up the lad's strength and endurance.

His fighting weight here was 40 grams, but with your magnificent husbandry (Daddehry?) and all the extra exercise, he is clearly thriving and building up muscle mass.

Oldbuddy, Whistle was in good shape when he came to me but a singleton budgie is unlikely to get the exercise that a flock budgie gets. He always liked flying but he needed a reason to do so and it showed at first. He has lots of opportunities now for buzzing around the house and believe me, he takes them I cannot claim credit though, the Flock does all the work. Even Hector, my weakest flier, has come on leaps and bounds since he first arrived. He flies for fun these days and hardly ever crashes, too.

Great about Hector, he is a very endearing fellow, and crashing is never a good idea! Years ago I kept white fantails because I had read about their flying abilities, and the spectacular nature of first fledging. They have soft beaks, and cannot hurt anyone; their defence against winged predators is their extraordinary flying ability, they can easily fly vertically upwards, and when let out of their enclosure each day they would often throw in a few barrel rolls for fun. They also make most excellent parents. I much admire your videoing abilities, I filmed the hatching of two eggs and learned to do video editing, which was great fun: you might be interested at

oldbuddy, what a marvellous video. Fantails are so sweet and so beautiful. Thank you for posting it. Incredibly, Chocobo watched some of it. She started spinning around on the keyboard and was definitely playing or displaying. I couldn't get the camera up in time for the best bits but I did get a couple of snaps. I've never seen her take such an interest before.

Half-way through an overdue weighing session. Finarfin has gained weight (that's fine, he was a bit titchy) but so far everyone else has lost a bit. Some of them, like Boba & Finrod for example, I'm very happy to see it!

Finally got a weight for Eeyore - 49g. Pretty much what he's been for a long time now (he used to tip 50g a year or so ago). I'm happy with that.

That's great, a good weight for Eeyore.

The Flock is celebrating after a fairly successful weighing session. Only my three heaviest hens were too shy and self-conscious to take part - Coco, Eva & Chocobo.
Weights seem fairly consistent and Boba continues to hold at a value which although high, isn't nearly as worrying as where she was a month ago. Eva is my only real concern at this point - I really would like to get a number for her. I hate doing it but I may have to force the issue soon and weigh her in the bowl. My main reluctance is, what do I do if she continues to be very overweight? I'm pretty much going to have to separate her from Loric (who keeps feeding her) and that is not something I would lightly entertain (actually, I don't think I'd do it under any circumstances).
