I don't think this is bullying in this case. I think he just wants his mate to run about and play with him. Think of him more as a Tigger "Come on mate, come out and play with me, you're not unwell, you just need some help!" When Roswell was sick (he'd stopped eating), Basil behaved in the same way toward him and was constantly trying to feed him. Me too. Its hard, I've been harbouring some hard feelings towards Eeyore for his treatment of Patch but now I wonder if there's some sort of budgie care & helpfulness going on here. For instance, when Chocobo did a Tigger-like pounce on Patch just now, Eeyore barreled in to ensure the lad's safety. There was no problem, Patch didn't miss a beat with his foraging but Eeyore was on the case!

I believe its more Tigger than bullying, too.
More weirdness- when Patch was left behind by the others when they exited the aviary this morning, I chatted to Patch. He responded with very quiet chirps, the most vocalization I've had from him in a long time. In addition, he was on a second foraging mission on the floor just now and right now, he's sampling a slice of apple I put out this morning.
This is a very different morning.

Clip of Patch's first floor forage of the day. The session lasted maybe six minutes, the video is about four. No need to watch the whole thing, you'll get the idea after a minute (although I love watching this stuff ). 1drv.ms/v/s!AnyoyWilEZ_Xh4Nn7ArZcJDCDFvpIA?e=IJwTqzA second session followed just now, then there is Patch trying a piece of apple - never seen him do that before! Currently Patch is trying to have a snooze and the rest of the budgies are having quiet aviary time with him. Eeyore is serenading him and being sweet for now.

Nice to see Patch out and about, having some normal time.
Is it a carpet on the floor?
Apple? must try mine with that. I gave up on fruit many moons ago!

Apple, all fruit, was a very tough sell for the budgies, always has been. I mainly supply it for Chocobo and Brown Jenkin. Patch trying it took me aback somewhat!
It is terrible old carpet on the floor. I will be decorating soon and the carpet is only there now to act as a splatter sheet. After the painting, I will see what state the wooden floor is in. If it's good, well, the birbs are in for a significant adjustment period 😄

Hopefully the wooden floor is good, it's so easy to get droppings off of. We had to temporarily move to another flat while our floors were done in Feb 2020. There was a wooden floor, so easy to sweep and get droppings off, I loved it.
We have lino here and that is pretty good too. I would never entertain a carpet, it holds dust and well all the spills, just no!
I tried strawberries with the budgies yonks ago and they would not even approach it.

It's so confusing. Patch (and Eeyore) does seem to be behaving perfectly normally in the floor foraging video but I agree that when he's fluffed up and docile he would give me cause for concern. I hope he's continued to have a 'good' day. They can be such a worry these little fluffballs.

Patch is such a pretty budgie, I hope you can get to the bottom of whatever seems to be troubling him.

I've had a chance to observe Patch for two or three hours today, on and off.
He's had the best day I can recall for many days and at times, you'd be hard-pressed to identify anything as being wrong.
The fluffed up look - he's not really all that fluffy, he's just pulled into a chick-shape - is a worry but there's still a chance that this is merely submissive or placatory behaviour.
I feel better today than I did yesterday but I'm not really any further in convincing myself I know what is going on here.

It's great that he's had a better day. I'll be interested in the overnight droppings.

It's great that he's had a better day. I'll be interested in the overnight droppings. I'm having some thoughts about that. I've found what I am certain are Patch's droppings, three of them, where he has been perching for much of the day (where the salad cress is on the window sill). The droppings are exemplary. At this point, an overnight isolation will likely only tell me how much he is moving. This will be helpful but is it worth the trauma he'll suffer and the disruption for the flock? Patch has had a much better day, I hate the thought that I could set him back. OTOH I do need to know, beyond any doubt, the answer to the droppings question. Indecision is rife here.

Are you saying that he's done only 3 droppings in the entire time he's been perching on the salad cress?

No, only that I found three droppings in one of the positions around the cress where I know he often frequents.
They are probably his but am I sure? Quite sure but not certain, contrary to what I said earlier. I know one of them is because it appeared as I watched and it looks identical to the other two.
There will be more droppings here and there, I've picked up quite a few but they could be anyone's.
I suppose I have to bite the bullet here but I wish, perversely, that Patch hadn't had such a good day as I wouldn't feel so guilty isolating him, in that case.

If you can guarantee that his droppings will be under him in the morning then do not isolate him. Mine stay in the same places overnight, so I know which are theirs. No, only that I found three droppings in one of the positions around the cress where I know he often frequents. They are probably his but am I sure? I will improvise a trap to capture the droppings tonight. They all move to new positions each night so I have to be creative.
...
I also had to wait until Chocobo went to bed in the other aviary. She would be all over my poop trap if she could, anything I set up is something she is utterly fascinated by and she feels compelled to, uh, modify it.
...
As ill luck would have it tonight, the budgies are all in a row with an inch between each.
Ha! I've already caught one from Patch - this ones a bit gooey but the colour is good.
