Big kerfuffle and flapping in the budgies' aviary just now. I peeked under the cover to find Squeak sitting on the sqiggly wooden thing near the bottom of the cage, the other budgies in a new distribution at the top and the poop trap that I set up discarded on the floor with all the poop scattered. Thanks, Squeak! Good job. I wonder, is she channelling her inner Iris, Marianne Marlow ?

Squeak needs a new role model. Iris is a menace!

I'm glad Patch has had a good day. It's so difficult to know what is going with our little guys. They are complicated little people.

I did not have a successful poop hunt last night except that by deduction, I did. This is the trap I set for Patch's poop in the budgie aviary: The budgies lined up well initially but they all have itchy feet and move around, all the time: As I mentioned, Squeak did a Miley Cyrus and rolled through my plans like a wrecking ball. In the morning, no one was where they were and neither was the trap. However, I had gooey poop distributed all over the map - from this I deduce that if everyone's poop is slightly moist, Patch's must be. Bear in mind, my flock seems to eat as much wet veg as they do seeds - squidgy poop is normal or at least, it seems that way to me. Quantity-wise, the amount of poop indicates that a group of ten-twenty budgies moved in for the night and moved out before I got up. Today, Patch has been active again. Not as active as I would like to see but way busier than a week ago, or indeed at any time in the past month. Patch has been running around, flying more and maybe sleeping a little less than usual. I am beginning to get a little hopeful for him. In this video, you can see signs of Patch pushing back against Eeyore - some nifty foot moves if you've a quick eye. The idea of Patch footing Eeyore is somewhat ridiculous but he gives it a good go! 1drv.ms/v/s!AnyoyWilEZ_Xh4QASISPojJNfGZ47Q?e=n3T7D2

Patch does seem to be fitting in much better. My guys eat a lot of wet foods and also have more gooey poop so I'm not sure you'll be able to tell much from that. Maybe its better to just keep an eye on his behavior.

There's been a tiny shift in the dynamic the past couple of days.
Eeyore still obsesses over Patch but he's taken to socialising with Mr Hibs again. A little bit. Hibs is tolerating Eeyore, a little bit, and I think this is giving space for Patch to be a budgie.
It is so good to see Hibs and Eeyore being friends again, even if it's only for a minute at a time, here and there.

How is Patch getting on?

Patch has had a somewhat active day again.
Eeyore has had a few obsession sessions today but I think I object to these more than Patch does. Patch often seeks out Eeyore if they are separated - but he is just as likely to take advantage of the break.
I'm not settled with this yet. I'm not as worried as I was but I would just like to see things tip a little more in favour of little Patch. More activity, more push-back against Eeyore.

As I type, Patch & Squeak are working the Forage Gym and Hibs & Eeyore are sparring over the cress. It doesn't seem so bad.

The guys have gone to bed but I've just seen Patch again bully Mr Hibs off of the swing. They both like to sleep on it but won't share. Patch always wins this argument.
Patch happy, Hibs disgruntled and hassling Squeak. Eeyore is, thankfully, keeping out of it. Chocobo is delighted she has an aviary to herself.

I'm glad Patch is standing up for himself a bit more. It's interesting the dynamic has changed. Maybe Eeyore thought Patch needed extra looking after for a while but now he feels confident to let Patch do his own thing now.

The more active Patch gets, the more space Eeyore gives him but - maybe it's the other way round?
Regardless, Patch has had a much quieter, sleepier day today so I am waiting for the local vet to ring me back about whether an appointment is worthwhile. I'm not 100% certain this local vet wants to get directly involved with birds. We shall see.
I always have the Portsmouth exotic vet to fall back on although she's no avian expert.

I sorry to hear that Patch is having a sleepier day. Hope he's ok. It's a real shame that coverage by avian vets is so sparse. Even if your exotic vet isn't an avian expert she I'm sure she will have had some bird experience or might be able to consult with an avian vet colleague.
I'm sure you've already checked out this vets but I noticed this one

I thought they probably were
I hope you do get your call from the vets. It might just be that they are reluctant to discuss Patch on the phone since they're not making any money that way.
It's a shame you're not closer to Swindon as there is a very good exotic and avian vets there - Great Western Exotics - where my vet did his internship.
