Being in the hospital cage is quite likely to affect his droppings due to stress and he might not be eating so much. I'm sure Eeyore will want to feed him to keep his strength up.
The reason I asked about a blood test was because that's what my vet always wants to do. That's usually his second stage after antibiotics. I've not yet had any blood taken from my birds though as it scares me too much.

It would appear that my vet is not a fan of blood tests for small birds like budgies.
And you are right about the feeding and droppings. The small cage is traumatic for Patch.
Last I saw of Patch he was with the flock on the forage gym, filling up on lentil sproutings. I'm currently teaching Herman how to be devastatingly cute and he's taken to it like a natural.
I feel like I need to be four places at once at the moment. Minimum! It's worse than when I was at work.

What I would call "normal" activity levels from Patch over the past 45 minutes or so. He's been wandering around the forage gym and the carpet (which has just as much "forage" as the the gym, thanks to Chocobo) with the rest of the flock.
Pics posted in the Flock thread.

A very successful dosing of Patch this evening with Baytril and the anti-inflammatory, Loxicom. Patch was relatively calm once I captured him and he opened his beak for both doses. Good boy. He was a bit sulky afterwards, pointedly turning his back on me when he was back in his cage. Here's a tip - when they say wrap a budgie in a towel to keep him calm, use a face flannel! So much easier! After that, it was bedtime. Chocobo had already gone to bed and the senior budgies soon followed. Squeak was remaining outside the aviary in protest of Patch's treatment and segregation. In the course of negotiations, I learned that Squeak is not particularly afraid of me but that she has utterly forgotten "Step-up". Nevertheless, I persuaded her to go to bed properly in the end. A pic of Squeak's protest:

Well done to Patch for taking his medicine so well.
How long did it take to persuade Squeak to go home?

Squeak looks very comfortable there on one foot.
I'm glad Patch took his medication. What are his droppings like overnight?

criswell we played a very brief chase game around the hospital cage - less than two minutes all told. It was getting dark and eventually Squeak wanted the aviary so she found her way in. I believe she wanted to stay out so she could better keep an eye on Patch. Bless her lovely heart.

Marianne Marlow, last night's droppings were very soft but not terrible. His droppings after me capturing him and administering the meds were awful and loose but that's only to be expected. I'm interested in tomorrow morning's output as he ought to be more settled tonight.

Patch's nightime droppings were an improvement on the evening drops but very squishy. This may be an effect of the Baytrill, the Loxicom, the trauma of separation or any combination of those.
Baytrill treatment went well this morning and Patch was relatively calm once wrapped in the flannel. He opens his mouth for the syringe which is more than Mr Hibs ever did! Very sulky again afterwards but he did join in on flock activities after a while. He isn't the burst of energetic budgieism that he was yesterday morning though. I'm worried for the lad.

Sorry to hear that Patch wasn't so energetic this morning. Is he eating ok? Have you noticed any improvement in his breathing? Poor little Patch. I really hope the medication helps him.
Is the colour of his droppings normal?

Patch's droppings are a good colour, dark green with white caps, but they were squishy as I say, more than usual. He's had some activity today but he's still sleepy compared to Squeak, who is a month younger, I believe.
I'm certain the meds are making him unhappy but it's only for a week. They may help. His breathing looks much the same to me so the anti-b and anti-i are not having an instant effect.
He was burbling earlier when he was dozing with Squeak. He's been more vocal the past couple of days since anytime after he joined the flock.

Being more vocal is a good thing. Have you heard him sing yet? Did you say before that he's never sang?

He had a loud contact call when I first had Patch, and during quarantine but it vanished when he joined the flock. He's never sung but I hear a quiet burbling from him now, sometimes when his head is tucked under. Which is very sweet. You can't call it singing but it isn't silence either.
As I type, he is being relatively active, foraging and harvesting cress. His breathing still looks slightly laboured.

Eeyore is trying to gee him up as he's come to a halt again.
