Thanks criswell for some reason I assumed you were younger than me! :-) Happy Anniversary to you for tomorrow! My platelets are now normal, amazingly I looked on my records and the results are already back, so I have ordered my medication and look forward to feeling a little better. I'm glad you're feeling a hearing a bit better. Hope your platelet levels have improved and happy anniversary. It's our 33 year relationship anniversary tomorrow.

I didn't know that was a thing criswell but thank you, I'll have a read. I generally feel awful all of the time. I have no idea what a restful sleep feels like. I have constant headaches, blocked nose, runny nose, bleeding nose! Most of my joints ache, hips, back and neck are the worst. I have allergy to grass pollen, birds (not just budgies but pigeons too) pollution and any perfume affects me.

Thanks Marianne Marlow . It's half term here in Wales so it's nice we can spend the day together. Yep, I'm older, I'll be 52 on this years Draw a Bird Day. I'm glad your platelets are back up. That must be a real worry when they are low. I discovered histamine intolerance by chance when I was feeling so bad after an allergy appointment and new antihistamines that I started researching on the internet. It fit all my symptoms and when I stopped taking the antihistamines and started following a low histamine diet, and cut out alcohol (which inhibits the breakdown of histamine), I felt so much better. I shared my findings with the allergy consultant at my follow up appointment and that's when he decided it was a likely diagnosis. While we were in the waiting room there was a lad there with his mum and they were talking about histamine intolerance too. He'd been sent there from cardiology.

So you're only 3 years older than me (my maths is awful, did I get that right?). I'll be 49 in November.
I take a daily antihistamine as so many things seem to set me off. Alcohol makes me feel awful, so I rarely drink these days. I get a stuffy nose and a headache from even a tiny amount.
I seem to have so much mucous in my sinuses and on my chest, all the time now. Wondering if I should give up dairy now too.
I'll look into what a low histamine diet entails, but my diet is already so restrictive and I even find it hard to follow a coeliac diet, even though I should.

On the dairy side, I have issues. But not all dairy. Some ice creams give me the same as you. Cream at times. Skimmed milk no
I seem to have a lot of catarrh most of the time
Maybe cut certain dairy bits out at a time

I wonder if anyone can recommend a good milk substitute for coffee? Everything I have tried has been awful. Works in tea but not coffee. On the dairy side, I have issues. But not all dairy. I go off it for periods of time too. Can't have it when I have a migraine. All through pregnancy I had bad reflux and gave up coffee then too. Trouble is I am just so tired without it. I stopped for 3 months last year and I was yawning all day long and falling asleep on the sofa at 8pm - which I just cannot do. When I have a bad cold/flu and suffering with catarrh, I go right off coffee, it makes me feel 🤢

Apart from the bad reflux, how did you feel being off coffee all through your pregnancy, Marianne?

Really tired, but I sneaked in the occasional diet coke.. Apart from the bad reflux, how did you feel being off coffee all through your pregnancy, Marianne?

Do you think that caffeine could be the root cause of your problems.
You mentioned earlier in this thread you had juiced for a while, how did you feel then, I presume you had given up coffee then too.

I don't remember feeling better when I juiced. The problem is that a lot of fruits and veg make the reflux even worse. I avoid fruit entirely for that reason. Yes I gave up coffee when I juiced. I have given it up several times for long periods of time. My sleep doesn't improve, I just feel more tired all the time. I expect the caffeine isn't good for me, but how else do I get through the day. I already feel like a burden with all my health issues, but if I am too tired to do anything at all then Paul has to do even more. Do you think that caffeine could be the root cause of your problems. You mentioned earlier in this thread you had juiced for a while, how did you feel then, I presume you had given up coffee then too.

I never thought that for a minute Marianne, I'm just trying to find ways in which to help you.
It's certainly no fun having long term health problems.
If you still have your juicer would you maybe try vegetable juices rather than fruit, if the fruit upsets you.
Wish I had the answers for you Marianne xx

I hesitate to suggest this as I have no personal experience of it but have you ever considered a carnivore diet?
Ignoring the social media hype, I know a couple of people who swear by it. It doesn't sound entirely sensible to me but then I have been fully indoctrinated into the fruit/veg/five-a-day cult.
If I were struggling with my diet and with allergies and other symptoms, I might get desperate enough to try carnivore. Might be difficult in London though - what I do recommend is getting your meat from a genuine farm shop rather than the supermarket.
