Ive no doubt i would soon start to complain about the heat Hezz, its nice for a holiday and i think im just fed up with winter at the moment and need some sun, i feel so much better in the sun, i think i get SAD in the winter Glad Mac seems a bit more mobile, he's prob wandering what your problem is ;D clearing off without him in the morning. When does the vet come back from Bush-walking, that reminds me of the book i studied at school as part of my English Lit exams. Walkabout, love that book.

Well, we have just returned from the vet. Not good news, I am afraid. They are doing an xray to be sure but it looks like he could have osteomyelitis from the old bite - a bone infection. He may lose his leg. Why does this stuff anyways happen to the good guys? He deserves much better than this! Anyway we will know more by this afternoon - hopefully it isn't as bad as they think. He is at the vet's now and I miss him already. If he does lose his leg, my 12yo is going to be terribly upset, so close after losing Bluey.

OH HEZZ! God, I am so sorry to hear your news lets keep our fingers crossed though for Mac. If its any consolation (which is difficult at this time, I understand) if the worst does come to the worst he will be able to manage with 3. But let us know as soon as you know how he is. My thoughts are with you all x

My thoughts are with you all x Thanks, Sam. At last some good news!!! It seems the original dog bite broke both bones in his foreleg, which they didn't realise at the time as they didn't xray it. Just treated him for the infection from the bite; that healed and all seemed good. But all his running around like a mad thing, in some way he cracked the healing calcification around the break, so basically re-broke the bone. It didn't take too much as it hadn't properly healed. So poor mutt is restricted to on the lead walks for the next 4-6 weeks and then we see how things are getting on. I am so relieved; the poor dog deserves a break - very bad pun, I know!

You are sooooo right! I feel like a piece of fresh pasta that has gone through the pasta maker a hundred times. It has been a roller-coaster day. Trying to think of the ramifications of a three-legged dog. Some vet's jokingly refer to dogs having "three legs and a spare", so we wouldn't have thought of anything more/less than a loss of leg. We would have kept him regardless. Now just have to try keeping him from mad runnings around - so much easier said than done! But I am grinning! ;D ;D

Oh I know you would have kept him, course you would I have seen happy 3-legged dogs, better that they don't have to go through it though. Oh dear, maybe he needs a Valium to calm him down. Dogs are so excitable!

They had to sedate him to take the xrays .......... I did jokingly ask for a valium a day, but guess it will be just up to me to keep him in check!

Oh that's good news Hezz, compared to the other option, although they cope incredibly well it wasn't the best news. My friend has a tripod dog (as she calls him) and you wouldn't know he was any different, he can out run my Tilly any day ;D. The resting is the hard bit especially when they are so energetic, you can only do your best. What a lucky man he is to have you. Keep us updated.

That's brilliant news Hezz, he just needs to stay still a bit more to let it heal....good luck with that! Perhaps as you said - Valium might be the best idea! (Joke) But all good news. You must be soooo relieved, no wonder you are smiling a lot!

Thanks everyone, for reading my ramblings. A short walk this morning was okay at the time but he is again limping a little. I will just have to take it and him very easy for the next week or two. Got worded by one of the further off neighbours this morning - have you been away? Your dog's been barking at night. She can't talk about disturbing the peace - she gets her bl**dy leaf-blower out and goes up and down the street. We have rainforest area, stupid; get used to a few leaves!

Thats ok Hezz, am just glad that your doggie is going to be alright now! And as for your neighbour, sounds like she has got the "humans were here before everything else" syndrome. I even know someone that complained that the garden birds wake her up in the morning?!!!

Oh dear. Just caught up with all the doggy drama. Glad he's okay. Can you give dogs camomile tea to calm them?

I felt like pointing out that it was actually MORNING when Mac started to make any noise. I know it would be annoying, but not half as noisey and annoying as some others I have heard who go all night! This one seems like she would be one having a go at the birds too. She doesn't only blow the leaves off the road, but off the grassy verge on the sides!! Pur-leas!!!! Her closest neighbour has a little yappy thing; I bet they have a good relationship, snigger, snigger.
