Yes I remeber now Geoff, I'm afraid my memory is not what it used to be. Whiskers certainly is such a friendly chap. I will see if he will nibble my lips, he certainly does my nose. When he first jumps against the bars it is a bit startling but when you see his face you can tell it is not hostile. I don't think he rested much last night is is poo is all over the place on the bottom of the cage. It will take a little while for him to really settle. You had better get some more bog roll now Start thinking happier thoughts now though. Whiskers is going to be happy thanks to your efforts kindness and forethought. What size is he compared to Joey?

My lot don't pay much attention to the TV until its turned around when we have dinner - suddenly Sir Wigg appears from nowhere to study the magic box Maybe he is hoping you are watching La Tour.

Well we have been but Sir Wiggy wasn't selected this year (due to political reasons) *sigh* and as a result we have had most of Team Sky go out within the first couple of days due to crashes and injuries?! In fact when the tour first started in France it was raining really badly and a lot of the top riders went out I think Sir Wiggy is going to retire anyway

Four days since I said my farewells to Whiskers. Things are somewhat quiet round here now, and taken a while to adjust to. I find myself ready to greet him in the Lounge of a morning, after taking the cover off of his cage. Every time I leave the Lounge, to do something, I find myself wanting to turn and tell him what I'm about, and the same coming back in. I've also found myself still turning the radio volume down, so as not to disturb him after putting his cage cover on of an evening. Animal keepers and lovers, with me definitely one of the latter, as everyone using this site is. OP, Looking at the videos has just reinforced the first impression I got on Tuesday, when Whiskers took to you straight away and is now a happy 'budgie'. (Nearly said bunny ) My Fiancé has a way with animals, domestic or wild, but even she could never get as close to him as you did. I am still utterly amazed at the way he behaved towards you. Definitely a match, and just what he was in need of now. I still well up on occasion. Thank you for taking him Geoff - Bog roll usage declining

Oh Geoff, I can imagine how you must feel when all of a sudden your best pal is not there, Especially Whiskers. Everytime I enter the room he is in he is at the bars, meeping, as we call it, waiting for me to get up close and personal. He preens my nose and has preened my lips, but I am not keen on that for his sake as well as mine. It is going to take a long time for you to get used to him not being there. I really do admire you for thinking of the future for Whiskers. He has shown no fear or rejection for me. I can sit with my arm in the cage and he will have a tentative preen of the hairs. However the fingers must stay still else he is off to the other side of the cage. We are getting better at it though. I think he will step up eventually. It took me months upon months with Joey. Rest assured Whiskers is one happy bunny/budgie. The two of them are busy calling to each other right now.

My thoughts are with you Geoff, it must be very difficult for you to keep visiting here (in a way) and completely understand how you must feel.
I take my hat off to you. You are a very brave and loving man to give Whiskers to someone because you want the best for him. That is the mark of a good owner.
God bless you Geoff xx

ouballie, I can only reiterate what Sam has said. And as I have already said, I can't imagine having to do what you have so selflessly done; give up one of your best friends for his sake. I am finding this whole affair rather hard to handle as I keep seeing it from your/my view ....... how I would feel doing what you have done. I am not so sure I could have done it. God bless.

What size is he compared to Joey? Without putting them side by side I would say about 1/2 to 2/3rds. He will be way more active than Joey.

He most certainly is BB, you do know your stuff. I have never seen Joey climb about his cage like this little feller can. He seems to take great delight in squeezing through spaces he shouldn't fit through. He can get from one side of his cage to the other in the blink of an eye. Finger training is going to be a challenge shall we say, different to what Joey has been.

Bailey only gets like that in his cage, if he wants to come out and can't, which isn't often
I hope you will be surprised at the finger training and is quicker/easier than you think. You may also get panic flying bit that settles

I hope you are right ffiscool. Whiskers doesn't panic fly when I put my arm in the cage. No he will carry on doing what was doing until I move my fingers. Then he will with great speed clamber across the cage. Not in panic really, but yes to get away from the finger. Although I am making progress each day.

So it's right then, show birds aren't nearly as active or playful as 'pet' birds? Bred for looks not personality ? So now OP can see why Joey has been the way he has for so long perhaps, bred for looks? Is Joey a show bird OP?
