A sample is just that: a sample. They don't need to be trying to drain the thing, like before, or to reduce the size; they would simply be getting enough to be able to diagnose the contents. Whether the fluid has basically a saline content or whether it is heavily loaded with cells of whatever kind and the levels of other things such as potassium, minerals etc. As Stitch seems oblivious to the worries she is causing you, if you wished to get this checked out, I don't think you need to wait; she seems to have no detrimental effects from the last time.

Well, since her vet visit last Monday the lump has grown markedly in size and is now quite firm She's beginning to sit on her perch fluffed and hunched over, here's a really bad photo of her doing this: imgur.com/a/tbuC6I never took her for another visit as my cat became quite seriously ill and had to be rushed in, I feel very guilty for not taking her again but with this new development I do not believe the vet will tell me any good news I'm guessing the way she's sitting means she's in pain? Other then resting like that and sleeping a bit more, she's still playing as she normally does and eating normally, my poor girlie

I do feel for you and your little bird Stitch.....I had a budgie years ago and only had him for three months, he must have been poorly when I bought him but I didn't realise it then. Very similar to your little bird....sadly....he died but without any vet intervention. Terrible shock but your hen is 8.....oh dear....thoughts and prayers for you.

LydiaMinx, if it is any consolation, she may or may not be in pain; she may be hunched over to keep her balance as the lump would be interfering with her centre of gravity. But if you are not sure, would the vet be prepared to give you some pain relief for her? Poor girl, it is very obvious now, isn't it?

It is very obvious It's come up so quickly, a matter of weeks ago she had nothing! And I imagine the vet would, I'll look into it now my cat is once again stable However Stitch is by no means tame (despite trying!) and she'd hate to be given medication, I'd venture to the point it may make her feel worse from the stress of giving it, but I'll enquire definetly. And I do hope it is because of her centre of gravity and not discomfort

You can only ask, and ask also if there is an alternative to having to administer it by syringe. Maybe something you can add to her water. Good luck, I am feeling for both of you.

Happy to report that Stitch is still with us and going strong, still eating and singing, and pottering around outside her cage when she can. The lump IS bigger but there's nothing that can be done, so I'm keeping a close eye on her and watching for any decline

Stitch is a real trooper! She is just not ready to leave yet. Your love and good care is keeping her happy. Hugs to you both.

So happy to be reading this, Lydia. I hope you and Stitch have a long time together still. Has she been back to the vet, or are you taking things day by day?

She hasn't been back as the last trip stressed her out so much and honestly I'm not sure what else they could tell me other then what they've already said, but I'll take her if she goes severely downhill. Taking things day by day, she's a real fighter

Is that her in your avatar? If so, she is a pretty bird.
One of our other members, Skysmum, has been treating one of her budgies who has a fatty lipoma with a mix of sodium bicarb and ACV. If you are interested, I am sure she would be happy to share just what she has been doing.

The beautiful bird in my avatar is one of my budgies that passed, nearly a year ago now. He was a rescue from a aviary where he was being bullied, poor thing And that sounds interesting, I'd be ecstatic if there was something I could do! How is it possible to tell if it is a fatty lipoma though? As the vet last time seemed convinced it was cancer of some sort

If the vet has given you the advice that it is a tumour, then the other may not help. I didn't realise that you had had the cancer confirmed, sorry. If it were me, I would probably give it a go anyway; you have nothing to lose by doing so.

He never really said what it was, but his language and reaction to the aspiration made it seem as if he is leaning towards cancer, as it is so common in budgies.
I'm definitely happy to give anything a go, how should I go about asking Skysmum? Am I able to pm members on this forum?

Yes you can PM, just click on their name when it's in blue lettering. Then click the box on the right that says Message.
