It's worth a try. It doesn't sound like it could hurt Stitch, and it might just help her.

Exactly my thoughts, budgiefriend. When it comes to helping them out in times like this, we do need to feel we are able to contribute something. (PS Thank you, skysmum. )

Skysmum, thank you so much for the recipe/mixture! I've been trying it for 2 weeks thus far, but sadly it doesn't seem to be making a difference yet The lump is MUCH bigger, it is beginning to block her pooing correctly so I'm having to clean it twice a day to prevent blockages, and she seems to be having periods where she hunches and appears very tired. When she isn't resting though, she's still herself and the good times still outweigh the bad. So I'm still taking it day by day - I am taking her to a different vet (the same who helped my cat in her last weeks and was amazing) in the nest few days to hopefully get more tests, a long shot that anything can be done but worth a shot. I'll keep updating on her progress, Stitch is one strong bird!

I have a few questions regarding euthanasia for Budgies, I've heard of the procedure being quite stressful for the bird and that I don't have the option to have it done at home (which I prefer to have for all my animals if pts) What is the standard procedure? Is it as quick as it is for mammals? Stitch is reaching the stage where I think it may be kinder, she is slouched over (head almost perch level) a lot more and is fighting with her mate. Regarding mates, her mate, Blue, isn't tame. He's finger trained, but other then that he was never interested in me at all, so I let them be - how am I going to comfort him when Stitch does pass? I've considered finding local aviaries so he can be with other birds, but there's a lack of them in my area. Any help would be great, I'm worrying about this so much, I'm not sure what to do for the best

What a difficult time for all of you. I send only my best thoughts and prayers. I hope that Stitch goes peacefully when the time is right. She will let you know when she has had enough. Hugs to everyone.

Sorry, I can't help with answers to your question, but just wanted to say that I am sorry Stitch and yourself have gotten to the point where you are considering this. Is Blue your only other bird? Some birds take the death of a mate harder than others. If he has other birds around him, I am sure he will bounce back, if not, it is hard to say how he will be. You may find that he will be happy to have you near. My thoughts are with you in this very trying time.

Unfortunately Blue will be my only bird after Stitch passes, and I'm reluctant to pair him with another/rehoming another as the cycle will just continue I'm going to carry on asking about local aviaries, as I feel that may be best for him when the time comes. Although again, Stitch is hot and cold - very slouched one minute, stuffing her face with food the next!

I guess it depends on whether you wish to not keep budgies in the future, because regardless of whether you buy from a breeder or rehome, you are always going to have different ages/stages of life, and therefore there is almost always going to be a time, at some stage, when you are in the situation where one passes away leaving only one other with no company. It is also a reason to think about other numbers besides two. Most of my budgie-keeping I have had odd numbers, one, three and five. Somehow fate seems to have decided that even numbers are not going to happen in my flock. Poor Stitch; my thoughts are with her. I wish there was some solution ...................

I would enjoy keeping Budgies in the future, but the upset of losing animals always puts me off having more, and Blue took so long to warm up to Stitch I think the bonding process would take its toll at his age now. I've found out my local rescue do have an aviary, so if things turn bad soon, he does have a home with other birds to go to, as sad as it would make me to see him go I've booked an appointment for Stitch to see a vet for this Thursday afternoon. The lump is soft-ish, pliable, almost feels like it is taut with liquid? I'm hoping this is the case and it can be treated temporarily and we're not looking at something worse. I'll update after this appointment and thank you all so much for the help so far

If this tumour is liquid-filled, the vets will probably suggest draining it. From my own experience, make sure they tell you the pros and cons of doing this. One thing that can happen is that the poor bird's body will immediately start to replace this fluid, regardless of what it does to the rest of the bird's body. When your bird is ill already this can be the final straw for them. If they do drain it, ask that they only take a small amount off, and see how Stitch handles that. I was ignorant of this when Bluey was ill, and I don't think the poor boy really got over it. I wished I had never had it done, even though it would have meant that his flying was impaired. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen, just so you know.

Good advice, Hezz. You learned a lot when poor Bluey was sick. We all benefit from your experience.

Thank you, budgiefriend. But I wish I hadn't had to. If I can help someone, then at least that's something.
