Good luck for Thursday with little Stitch, my thoughts are with you, bless her. Re Blue, im sure he would adjust to being on his own with you. You don't say how old he is, as far as i can see anyway. Im just wondering if an Aviary situation could be a bit stressful for him, if he is around Stitch's age. It would be worth asking on here to see if anyone was close enough to take him if you didn't feel you could keep him alone, just a thought

Thank you for the advice Hezz, I'll be sure to mention this if he does aspirate the lump. And thank you skysmum, the well wishes mean a lot, I'm very conflicted on what to do And with Blue, I'm hoping he does adjust, as not having him around for his remaining years would be horrible, and yes he's about the same age as Stitch, so about 6-7? Having the rescue aviary is a plan B for him if he really doesn't take to single life or being out with me more, they were very supportive about it and said I was free to visit him whenever I wished to. Fingers crossed for good news tomorrow, I really don't want Stitch pts at the vet:(

None of us do. I hope they have some other treatment they can offer. Fingers and feathers crossed for something positive from the vet visit.

We all will be thinking positive thoughts for you and Stitch tomorrow. Also for the vet, that he finds the best treatment.

Ok, just back from the vets WITH Stitch in tow. He basically said that there isn't anything they can do, regardless of what the lump is (I'm not sure I believe this?) but that he doesn't believe it's her time yet.
He questioned me on her appetite and habits but said that even just from looking at her, he could tell she wasn't quite ready yet, despite this massive lump. She still has a huge appetite and is still very feisty so it's basically waiting until he quality of life is low enough.
Thank you all for the kind words, I'll keep you updated on how Stitch is doing and I'll keep trying with Skysmums recipe on the off chance it is a fatty lump!

Sooo pleased stitch came back with you . This is exactly what i had with Teddy, you can just buy them time. I was in such a quandary with Ted, many times i thought that's it i cant see him go on like this any more and each time he rallied. He was good till the end and then it was taken out of my hands when he passed peacefully away at home. They can go on for a long time with them, amazingly. Ted had his for a good 2 years. Sometimes the risk of a vet intervening is just too much. At least you know where things are with it for now .

I get what you mean about looking at them sometimes and thinking that their suffering needs to end, but she's so bouncy at other times, it makes decision making extremely hard! But it was also very reassuring to know that a professional believed that she still had a quality of life, that settles my nerves a fair bit! It's just so horrible when they get ill like this, and you're totally powerless to do anything for them

I know but its a price we have to pay for having and loving them all. If i had a pound for every time i lost a pet and said, "that's it, no more" i would be a very rich lady. We have to have them, love them and let them go. As you say at least she isn't suffering.

So relieved that Stitch wasn't deemed a lost cause. All you can do is make the rest of her life as happy and as healthy as possible. As Skysmum said, they can seem to last for a long time with tumours, and it can be so very hard when they have bad days; wondering is this going to be it? Having to stand by and watch and be able to do nothing is very hard. Take care, both of you, don't waste any of the time you still have her for as you will regret it once she has gone. All my thoughts. xxx

Thanks again for all the lovely words, Stitch is still with us! and doing very well considering. She hunches often but still climbs all over the cage and eats constantly - she's marginally more upbeat since I dramatically increased the amount of fresh food they get (Mainly ice gem lettuce, as that's all they'll really eat!). I'm hoping that Stitch will pass suddenly, and that I don't have to take her on a stressful trip to the vets But she's still going strong so that could be a ways down the road anyway Will keep you all updated!

There is so much fight in these little guys; we certainly can learn a lot from them. So pleased that Stitch is still making the most of her time with you.

I'm in need of some advice; Stitch is beginning to decline, she's starting to slump over her perch further (so her head is lower then the perch itself, very distressing to see), heavy breathing, squinting (which I've read is a sign of pain?) and the lump has increased so much that it is beginning to crack in places - no major bleeding so far, but enough that it was startling to find in the morning. She is still however eating and playing as much as she can. It's so distressing to see her like this and I'm considering taking her to the vets for euthanasia in the next few days. I would like advice from any of you though, as you are all more experienced in these issues then me - is it fair to leave her any longer? I'm not sure which decision is more welfare friendly at this point in time
