Could it be the sudden change to cold air coming from the fridge? Just a thought. I assume you opened the fridge again. No. He was sitting on his big ball on top of his cage. I heard him fluttering and when I reached him, it was the same thing. His right leg wasn't working. Lasted around 5 minutes, then about a 10 minute recovery time. Something is definitely not right.

Sorry stace, with you saying the same as last time. Wishing you and Boo all the best with the vet. It sounds like a trapped nerve or cramps, if they get cramps that is. Wishing you both the the best.

Back from almost a day with the vet. Gee, he is so on the ball this guy.
It's not a stroke or seizure. It's something pressing on his nerve causing intense pain and lameness, high up in his leg muscle, due to bacterial toxins and inflammation in his gizzard. It's inflamed in his leg muscle as well. Confirmed after a barium meal x-ray. Instead of being smooth, the muscle shows dark patches. And you can see the toxic gas build-up around his innards. Poor baby.
Boo's had a day of "flushing" of his intestines - 3 in total. He's been given Clavulox as an anti-biotic med in the meantime. Tomorrow I ring to confirm the results of his culture test, which the vet is hopeful will point to what may have caused the bacterial infection. It will also further pinpoint the right meds to give. Maybe we'll continue with the Clavulox for 5 days, or swap it for something more appropriate to the culture results.
The bacteria is anaerobic spore bacteria. Toxic apparently. Under the microscope, you can see them clearly as rod-shaped swimming things.

Its a huge relief its not a stroke or seizure and is something that can be dealt with. Big hugs and love to you both xx I know. I was holding my breath waiting for terminal news about a tumour or similar. Thank goodness it wasn't that. Great relief it is something that can be treated stace. One hell of a fine vet you have. Poor Boo putting up with the pain and discomfort. Well done you for taking him to the vet. Looking forward to the full recovery report when it happens. Yes, thanks, OP. We still need to figure out why, so I'm hoping to hear something positive tomorrow. Boo has a bad history, ever since he chewed up some rope fibre a few years back which caused a major ongoing health drama. Unfortunately, I think he's always going to prone to this kind of thing.

Just called the vet. We have to take Boo out for one more "flushing" session tomorrow. I'll find out more then, but on the brief phone conversation the vet did say we caught him early, which is good. Boo is happily chatting himself up in the big mirror, telling himself how gorgeous he is. Thanks for all your good wishes. I'll report back when I know more.
