Can't believe how fluffy Alfie is compared to when he was a baby! He does look better and is certainly lively

He just sat still enough for me to take a photo - he had just been preening and now he is going MAD! Post Edit - Have you noticed how his feathers are now laying down more?

Biggggg difference to a few days ago when you first posted his photo. I remember asking the question when Blue's cere turned, on another 'unmentionable' over here, and was told that if it was an iodine deficiency I would see improvement within days .......... Alfie backs that statement up ten-fold.

News Update: Alfie has put on a bit of weight! YAYYYY! A whole 2g! So he is now 44g (watch this space) AND...had a call from Lara the Vet yesterday (sorry I didn't post it sooner but have been really busy lately) But good news there too! She has reported that Alfie's faecal sample was completely clear! So it does seem like something behavioural related (as he could be being bullied by the others...mmmmm SLIGHT possibility) or my theory of iodine deficiency. We had a long chat and she seems to recommend getting his weight up then introduce him back to the rest of the gang and medicate all with Avipro as this should have sufficient amount of vits minerals and importantly iodine in. She did also recommend Harrison's bird food but I need to research that some as I need to make sure it wont make Murph put on any more weight?! Oh the JOYS of budgie keeping!

Great news about Alfie's weight and his poo being clear.
I believe that guardian angel and daily essentials also have lots of vits and iodine in them, might be worth making a comparison before you buy.
Medicate them for how long with Avipro? Will Alfie need extra iodine forever? I'd keep using Lugols iodine on a maintenance basis in their water..

I thought this EXACTLY Marianne Marlow. Surely it wouldn't harm giving iodine in the water to EVERYONE? On such a small amount too. And I think the vet suggests Avipro forever But as I said, need to research a lot of this so I have some homework to do Am just so pleased Alfie has stopped regurgitating , is eating a drinking normally and looking loads better than he did. It was quite funny the other day, as the OH voiced his concerns about Alfie's face having browny/orangy stains round his beak, to which I kindly informed him Alfie had eaten carrot today Bless!

Great news for Alfie. Whilst there is little doubt that some of these products do help our buds, are these vets pushing particular brands just a touch. Your vet could have said a pro-biotic instead of a particular brand?

That is very true which is why I wanted to compare as I reckon some are the same ingredients but VERY different prices

I agree Sam about comparing prices and ingredients. I am not sure about Alfie being on the multivits and probiotic permanently, that doesn't sound right.
The iodine I could understand at a maintenance level and no that would not hurt the other buds, they need iodine too.
I know that there is a lower level of iodine that you can just use maybe a few days a week in their water to keep them topped up. I don't have it to hand though.

Its not over yet tho Am still researching the best plan of attack as far as his food/supplement. I dont like the idea of supplements unless they are natural and it does seem rather ridiculous to by a supplement when the majority of vits and minerals he is getting through his fresh veg. I have even seen that you can by organic dried ground kelp for iodine? God how I need a break!

If it is grown in the sea how can it be anything other than organically grown?
