Well, no one has updated for a while, sooooooo ...... I'm going to show off some of my home-grown sprouts being eaten: A fistful of sprouts: Trying to balance with a fistful of sprouts: While we are a budgie forum, the budgies are a little more reluctant to try anything new, so we'll have to make do with the ever-entertaining Loki.

Loki is so much braver than a budgie He's enjoying making a mess I bet!

Oh, yes!! Making a mess is Loki's claim to fame. As for brave .... the big brave conure was very, very scared of the seagrass mat; the budgies were all over it in seconds. Loki still needs to be enticed to explore it. Each to their own, I guess. If I eat it, Loki is curious enough to have a taste or three. Today "we" tried pawpaw or the first time.

So, with Loki, if you enjoy it then he will.
With the budgies they all have eachother and therefore if one brave one tries it then they all will.

That's about it in a nutshell. Thankfully I didn't need to eat the grass before Loki tried it. I think might have pushed my degrees of dedication just a tad too far. At the moment he is wiping corn off his beak, onto my shoulder.

"Loki" and "make do" should never be used in the same sentance Hezz! But well done to both of you for trying it out! You for trying to grow it and Loki trying to eat it! LOL!

Good, good, Sam. Glad to see some greenery. The pot looks good, even if you don't get any millet. The sprouts are being grown primarily for the Lok-star, with humans being allowed to partake, but it has taken a little time for him to do more than just have a nibble. Maybe he saw me putting them on my sandwich and though he had better get in quick.

Instead of harvesting the grass this time I might try and see if I can get them to eat it from the pot i.e put it near one of their cage stands

It is celery. Grown from the stub cut off the bottom of some supermarket stuff. It started its reincarnation in a little dish of water. The it graduated into a tub of home made compost. After it outgrew that pot it transferred into the pot you see with some more home made compost. It has spent this life in that same window cill and gets the morning sun. It has not been tried yet, but it should be edible.
