All very good signs to say that he is in a better place than before the meds started. If only you could sit him down and ask him "now, honestly, how much better do you feel now, to what you did before that visit to the vet??"

Thanks skysmum. This evening's plan was to squeeze and wriggle himself upwards and out of David's closed hand. That was a very effective escape plan but did mean he had to be caught 5 or 6 times. I wonder if he thought it was worth it. Hezz I agree they're good signs. I've tried talking to him. He even puts his head on one side to listen. He knows he's feeling better but obviously he doesn't think it has anything to do with the horrible things we are doing to him twice a day!

So glad RC is doing better. Clever guy to get out of David's grasp! The vets always tell us to keep the sick bird away from the others. I wonder how contagious these respiratory infections are? RC has been caged with Dean Stockwell but (thankfully) he's not sick.

Thanks Tweetiepiesmum Dean Stockwell is fine, apart from his feather loss problem. Dexter is fine too. Our vet said there was no need to keep them apart as the others would already be infected, as infections are often their quite contagious before symptoms appear. It's important to keep them apart if they've not met yet though to try and prevent infection.

Ahhh, criswell. Thank you for clarifying that. Buddy and Tweetie Pie are at opposite ends of the house. I'm so anxious for them to meet but my vet said keep them apart for 2 months. Sigh!

How long a course of medication is Buddy having? Randolph Carter's is 6 weeks of doxycyclin- recommended length for clamydia infection because the bacterium hides inside the cells (like a virus) and in 6 weeks it should have emerged from the cells twice, giving the antibiotics a chance to kill it off completely rather than leaving it dormant in the cells.
Randolph Carter has stopped screaming when caught now as he has realised it isn't working. He's main approach last night and this morning was to keep his beak shut and shake his head each time I managed to open it.

What’s he like eh criswell 🤭. My Squawk used to ‘shut down’ by closing his eyes, fluffing up and chattering his beak. I soon cottoned onto it as did the vet 😂 We used to say he was being a diva.

I can't blame him for not wanting the medicine as it taste horrible and even though it's only a drip it's a big gulp for him. He gets a bit anxious now when David goes into the lounge in the evening, as he thinks he's going to be grabbed, even if it's an hour or two until medicine time. He's still behaving normally around me so the grabbing seems to be the worst offence.
My next door neighbour once insisted that I had some of that really dark brown cough medicine that tastes totally vile. I wanted to spit that straight out too. Instead I just went home and drank a big glass of something nice to take the taste away.

Buddy has a respiratory infection criswell. I take it that it is the human equivalent of a cold. He's breathing hard and sneezing but not as badly as initially. His AV gave him a shot last Thurs and I have drops to put in his nose every 72 hours. It is quite a challenge getting the drop over his nostril when he's squirming - the vet's nurse made it look so easy! This Thurs he goes in for another shot. Since I'm the one to catch him and give him the medicine, my hand has become the big bad monster. Interesting how the recommended treatment varies.

Our vet made giving Randolph Carter his medicine look easy too. Although he was so warn out and scared at that point that we could have probably done it easily too. I bet he wouldn't find it so easy now RC is feeling so much better.

Randolph Carter is doing well. He's still hating medicine time. Here's a photo of him after he gave his face a good wash the other day, with his little buddy Dean Stockwell taking an interest. Someone seems to have got injured during the capturing process as there was patch of blood on a perch. It was still fresh when I cleaned that cage about 15 mins after medicine time. There was no blood anywhere else in the cage and I couldn't see any on the boys either. I didn't want to catch Randolph Carter up again to check him but I think I could see something on the bottom of his foot. We'll try to take a look when we catch him tomorrow. They just had to give me something else to worry about.

Aww, poor little tyke. Hope its just very minor. Did you check David to make sure it wasn't his blood?

I was thinking the same thing ... are you sure it is budgie blood, or did he get a good nip in? Seriously though, possibly someone bumped a blood feather? I do hope it isn't an injury of someone's.

I didn't think to check David but I'm sure he would have noticed. It definitely wasn't mine. I couldn't see any sign of injury on RC or the others, and no more blood this morning so I think maybe it was a blood feather.
