That's a bit scary! I hope none of them are injured.

They all seem totally fine, but yes, it was scary finding blood. No sign of any more today.

There hasn't been any more blood in the cage so that's a relief.
We are now half way through the 6 weeks. Randolph Carter's current tactics involve clinging on to the bars until his claws are carefully prised off and yesterday he got on to the highest perch so he could hang on to side with his claws and the roof with his beak too. He is also still clamping his beak shut.
We weighed him again last night and he is now 71g. I will have a feel of his keel bone tonight as I don't want him putting on too much weight.

Thanks tweetiepiesmom. It's horrible when they don't understand that we are only trying to help.

I got so worried about him this evening for no good reason. He wasn't behaving any differently. I think I'm just feeling a bit highly strung at the moment! I thought his beak looked like it had got longer and a dropping looked a bit odd. Almost certainly an over reaction. I need to remind myself that it will take time for his liver to recover even though we've got the infection under control and that he is still convalescing. I'm generally keeping quite calm about it but I do get in a panic now and then.

Oh everyone who has had a sick bird knows that felling! Too bad we don't have a magic wand to wave and make them better immediately. It may take longer than you'd like but RC is getting well.

Randolph Carter's droppings have been getting greener over the weekend and they were quite green today so I called the vet and we had a good chat. I told him how well he had been doing and that he had put on weight and the vet said to carry on as we are with the antibiotics if his weight is stable and his appetite is good but he also mentioned that we could add milk thistle into his treatment. We weighed RC this evening and he has lost 5g in a week so I am super worried about him now. That's half the weight that he put on. I will be ringing the vets again in the morning and will probably be taking him for another check up. Luckily my parents are staying so they'll be able to take us. I'll update you all tomorrow. He's definitely brighter than he was before we took him to the vet last time - he's alert and playful but he hasn't been sleeping the best at night. I'm so worried that we are going to lose him. My mum is being wonderful and helping to keep me calm.
I'm being a rubbish host and haven't even given them dinner yet. It's in the oven.

Sounds like a mixture of good news and bad. On the one hand RC's looking better and eating but on the other hand he lost weight, not sleeping well and green droppings. I'm hoping his digestive system is just reacting badly to the treatment for now. RC has come a long way - keep it up little guy, you can heal. Sending good thoughts to you criswell.

Thanks tweetiepiesmom . I'm so worried about him. He was a right pest at bedtime, and chucked Dexter off his swing so he's not feeling as bad as he was as he stopped doing that. He's been holding his leg up today so I think his liver is swollen again. I wonder if it's a relapse because he's been quite bad in the last week about swallowing his medicine. I've just been reading that relapse do occur if treatment is not completed so maybe he's not been getting as much as he should. A couple of times he's just kept his mouth open and let the medicine drip out. I don't know what we can do to make him swallow it. We've tried holding him for longer, stroking his beak, gently holding his beak shut. Maybe I'm putting the medicine in the wrong place in his mouth. When he's been spitting some out I've not been giving him another dose as I haven't wanted to overdose him.
I will ask the vet about that tomorrow.

Thank you blue48. I'm glad he went to bed happy enough. I won't be going to bed quite so happily. I am really starting to wonder if it is a relapse. That's the first thing I will ask the vet about tomorrow. I wish I'd made a note of the number of times he's spat his medicine out. This morning he didn't spit it out but his face looked wet when I looked at him a bit later so I think he just let it drip out. He's such a tricky little customer.
