Thank you blueelephant. I'm just waiting for the vets to open. He was quite bright when he woke up but he struggled so much having his medicine that he's really puffed out now. I'm leaving them quietly for a little while although really I want to be looking at him to see if he's ok.

We have an appointment at 1pm. He's been ok this morning. I tried to give him his medicine more slowly this morning and he really struggled and he was very puffed out when he got back in his cage and he held his leg up for a little after so something is quite uncomfortable for him.
He's been singing and being quite bright once he recovered from the medication. I'm glad we couldn't get him an appointment earlier as he really needed time to recover.
I will update when we get back.

So sorry criswell that RC is having such a tough time of it. If you soaked a corner of a cracker with the medicine, would he eat it? Or maybe there's something else that you could put the medicine on that he would eat.

Thank you so much everyone for your thoughts and good wishes.
We have a very positive appointment at the vets. We had to wait about an hour for our appointment as the vet was in surgery with an emergency. It was quite cold so they gave me a heat pad to put under Randolph Carter's carry box.
The vet was excellent. He was so apologetic for keeping us waiting. We talked about what was going on and the first thing he noticed is that there weren't many droppings so it seems like RC hasn't been eating as much as he should. It's so hard to tell with 3 of them and he's definitely been perching at the feed pot.
He felt his abdomen and couldn't feel anything untoward so it seems like his liver has gone back to normal size. He doesn't think he's in too bad condition and got me to feel his keel bone to see. Even with the weight loss he was still 6% heavier then at his last appointment.
Then we talked about what to do about the rest of his medication. I told him he was spitting it out and that he was so distressed afterwards this morning that I thought he was about to fall down dead. He did give me some advice on how to give the medicine right at the back of his mouth and we talked about aspiration risk and he even showed me some diagrams of where a birds trachea is - at the base of the tongue.
He made me laugh by saying that hopefully he was better at giving medication than I was and that vets make it look easy, and he laughed even more when I said I really hoped he was better than me. I asked about injections and the injectable form is hard to get in the UK. They would have to order it and it's expensive so we are going to try antibiotics in their water to see how that goes. That will benefit the other 2 who are most likely infected too. He agreed that it wasn't good to be stressing RC so much so we will see how this works. This will mean that RC won't have to get up so early in the morning and he'll be able to get his usual 12 hours sleep.
The vet knows we are seeing him next Tuesday with Dean Stockwell and we will discuss RC some more then. He also asked me to keep him updated on how RC is doing which I thought was really nice.
I'm relieved that his liver is back to normal size so I think maybe the green droppings were related to him being stressed and not eating as much as he should, which might be related to stress.

I’m so pleased for you criswell 😊 RC is a tough little cookie and even spitting his medication out shows he’s still got that energy in him.

It is always good to have a positive experience with your vet. Glad you have a good 'un, criswell. Hope the medicated water is enough to get RC back on track. xx

Thank you everyone. I really do appreciate it. Randolph Carter was feeling quite well this evening. After work and pancakes we had a nice evening watching TV and the boys were able to stay up an hour later as they don't have to get up for medicine before David goes to work. They've had such a change to their routine even without catching for medicine it's no wonder he's got so stressed. They usually have 2 hours TV time with us but they haven't been able to have that so often as by the time I finish work it's been time for medicine and bedtime. They can have a lie in tomorrow and they will be relieved not to be chased about in the morning. Fingers crossed that they will drink the antibiotic water.

That all sounds really positive criswell, and meds in the water will be so much easier. Maybe RC is sensing your anxiety so not having to force the medicine on him will be great for both of you. Fingers crossed it's all smooth running now

Thanks both. Off to bed now. I hope the boys sleep well.
It was so helpful having my parents here today so I didn't have to wait until David got home to go to the vets, and I got lots of hugs. They are all in bed now so I'm off to bed now too.
