I'm going to meet the new avian vet in Cardiff on Tuesday as we're taking Randolph Carter for a check up. He's his usual perky self but his poops have changed colour (green faeces) without a change in diet so I think a check up is best. I don't think Randolph Carter will be too happy about it. It made the receptionist laugh when I told her his name and she thought it was very grand.
The vet is based at the new veterinary hospital that is now part of our old vets. It has an exclusively bird and exotic animal clinic so I'm excited to see what it's like. The vet sounds great too. Parrots are his favourite patients, and he has his own aviary full of wild type budgies. So Randolph Carter should be in good hands. I'm worried that it might be fatty liver as he does like his food and he's a plump fellow.
It's quite expensive - £57 for an initial consultation, but I don't mind too much if we are seeing an expert.
Dean Stockwell is next in line for a check up as he's having real problems with his feathers. It's probably french moult but he's looks like such a scruffy little thing at the moment and very itchy

Ohhh, will be interesting to get to see a new set-up; I'd be excited as well. Hopefully Randolph Carter will be a model guest and there is nothing too terrible going on.

I hope so Hezz It will be a real change to go to a clinic that is specifically designed for birds. It's really needed here. We've only had three two hour a week surgeries in Cardiff for the past few year with a vet I wasn't too keen on and now we've got a dedicated clinic 8.30 til 6 Monday to Friday.

criswell I haven’t had to see any of the vets thus far, touch wood. Let me know what you think of them, please. It’d be good to have a recommendation if I ever need to go. Hope Randolph Carter is okay!

We drove up to the vets yesterday so we know exactly where it is and have picked the best route. We are taking him in this carrier, with a ladder so he has something to perch on. We were planning on taking Randolph Carter by himself. Or should I take Dexter for company? Would 2 birds be ok in the carrier? It's about a 20 minutes drive. Dean Stockwell would have to stay at home by himself. I don't want to cause unnecessary stress to any of them so not sure what to do for the best. I am probably fretting about it a bit too much but I am a worrier! It kept me awake last night, worrying about RC being scared on his own vs Dexter escaping from the carrier when then vet gets RC out to examine him, and many other scenarios, many of which are hopefully unlikely.

I would take only the bird who needs to be seen. You say "we" are taking him, so I'm guessing that is you and hubby, one to drive and one to hold carrier and reassure Randolph Carter during the drive. With someone talking to him all the way, I don't think it will be too stressful for him. Good luck with the visit and an update please, when you get home.

I used to take my Squawk to the vets in one of these. I wouldn’t put two in there as there’s not a lot of room inside. I took Chirpy to the vets once to accompany Squawk but they travelled in a small cage as I wasn’t keen to put them together in the plastic carry box.

I would just take RC on his own as well, bless him i hope all will be well. Sounds like a great new establishment and he will be in excellent hands by the sound of it

Thanks for the reassurances that he'll be ok on his own. There will be two of us. I'll be holding Randolph Carter and chatting and singing to him while my OH, David, does the driving.
I've started to worry more about what might be wrong with RC, and that will probably keep me awake tonight. I hope it's nothing too bad. He's eating well, singing and playing so that is encouraging. I think he's breathing a little fast though.
