Today Buddy seems to feel better. Tweetie Pie now knows there's another bird in the house. Early this morning he starting calling out and Buddy has been answering some. Tweetie Pie must think its spring because he's been so vocal, chirping and playing with his toys. I think Buddy is going through a molt which is probably not making him feel any better. He has many pin feathers on his head. The woman who raised him said he eats everything. I put some wet parsley in for him yesterday and he bit the stems but I didn't see him eating any. Today I have some baby broccoli in there - waiting to see if he eats it. Maybe the woman who raised him gave him chopped veggies?

Great!!! Hope you get finished with that moult soon, Buddy! My birds havenever tried broccoli, but i plan on putting some in with their precious seebs! I hope he tries the broccoli. Maybe 'shave' the green bits off so they look like their part of a seed mix, then put them in his food? You can chop up the stems maybe like carrots as well? I've never tried it but it sounds like it might work. Well, i guess wait and see if the tries to eat the whole thing first

I'm glad Buddy is feeling better. It is going to be lovely for them when they meet up.
My boys like broccoli. I just clip a piece in the cage. I find that's the best way to get them to eat anything rather than chopping it up. I think they like the game of having something hanging up that they can destroy. It's more fun if it's food and a toy all in one.
Many animals are quite wary of a food the first time they see and they might just have a tiny nibble in case it's poisonous. My boys were like that with dill. The first time they had some they ignored it totally. The second time a few weeks later they had a tiny nibble, and now all three quite like it. Their favourite food is basil and will come running over when they see me with some. They also like spinach and apple, but not carrot.

Great criswell, I'll try those things. It didn't look like he ate any of the broccoli.

Does Tweetie Pie eat broccoli? Once they meet, Tweetie Pie will teach Buddy what's fun to eat if he hasn't got the hang of it before then.
It's interesting that Buddy nibbled the stems of the parsley. It's good that he tasted it. Next time you give it to him he will probably eat some. My boys always go for the stalks on the spinach leaves first and the stems of the basil. That seems to be the most fun bit to nibble.

Tweetie Pie came from one of those large supermarket style pet stores. He'd never been handled and he will only eat seed. He's afraid of everything else I've given him. I was hoping Buddy would teach him to eat fresh foods. The woman I got Buddy from said he "eats everything". I'm not sure how much of his behavior is because he's sick, molting and/or new to my house. Here's what his poor little head looks like.

Poor little chap! Have you tried misting him a little with some warm water tweetiepiesmom?

No @shirls I hadn't thought of misting him. I'll cautiously try it. I don't want to traumatize him any more than necessary. Today would be a good day to do it because he'll get his nose drops today and I always get some on his head.

Thanks. Interesting - sometimes when I tag someone, it works. Sometimes it changes a capital letter to lowercase and then it doesn't work. Is my computer doing that I wonder? Hezz @marianne Marlow Seems to do it most often to Shirls and BloomCountryLover

tweetiepiesmom Some people's usernames are different to their display name, that's probably why.

Ahh, thanks - that worked Marianne Marlow. Buddy looks much better today. He and Tweetie Pie were calling back and forth and Tweetie Pie got so excited! Then I had to give Buddy his nose drops. When I caught him, he latched onto the fleshy pad of my palm and bit down. The boy has a bite on him when he wants to - ouch! Now he's back in his cage and sulking. Poor little guy. I can't wait for the nose drops to be over so we can start on rebuilding trust and friendship!

I'm so pleased he's doing better How many more times does he need the nose drops? I'm glad you don't have to give him drops every day. I'm sure you'll be best friends again before you know it.
