I'm so sorry you've caught a cold I hope you're better really soon. It's brilliant that buddy is feeling so much better. Such a relief. He sounds really happy too. It's very cute that he chirps like a love bird

Good news about Buddy, not so good for yourself. Praying that Buddy stays strong and healthy.

Since Buddy has to stay in quarantine another 2 months, I decided to get him a big cage. I put him in it just a few minutes ago. I had to grab him to move him and he squawked miserably. He's now sitting at the bottom looking scared but he is looking around. I thought it would be best to make the move at the end of the day. I'm second guessing that but I second guess everything. I hope he makes himself at home quickly.

Thankfully it didn't take Buddy too long to jump up on a perch and start preening himself! Hope he gets on with exploring his new home. Poor Tweetie Pie is so skittish, I think he'd be sitting on the cage bottom for a day.

I would have moved him early in the day so that he has all day to get used to the new cage and be comfortable in there when it came time to sleep.
I'd also put the paper on top of the grate to keep his cage clean more easily. You can put several sheets down at a time and simply lift the top off and you immediately have a clean cage. It can make moving around on the floor of the cage easier for them as well.

I thought putting him in the new cage in the late afternoon, he would be lower energy and not get as excited plus he wouldn't be as hungry because he would have been eating all day. Uhmm, next time something like this comes up I'll ask for opinions first. Thanks - I'll move the paper up tomorrow. Do you change the paper when your birds are out playing?

I buy the LARGE size, white, chip shop paper which fits the bottom of my Hamberley cage perfectly.
That makes it really easy to just pull the grill out slightly and remove the top sheet.
I find it so much better with the paper on top of the grill, Sam sometimes has a play on the bottom of the cage, so its easier on his little feet.

My buds are not precious, they don't get upset by simple things like changing their paper, water, food etc. Having said that, they also have a very big cage (that they are very rarely in) and they are used to me doing things around them, holding them, giving them health checks, administering meds etc. I doubt they even noticing me changing their paper.

Sorry you have a cold tweetiepiesmom, but how sensible you are in not sharing it with everyone. When I worked I used to get really cross if people came into work with a cold. All credit to you, hope you feel better soon.

Minor disaster hit last night. In the early evening Tweetie had already gone to his sleeping perch, Buddy was checking out his new cage and chirping and I was enjoying some TV time. I heard a funny scraping kind of sound followed by Buddy flapping wildly. It looked like a top corner of the cage broke and collapsed down. Fortunately Buddy was on the opposite side of the cage and the hospital cage was still beside the new cage. I grabbed him out (again!!!) and put him back in the hospital cage. Buddy was not hurt. I checked out the cage. A couple of the wires broke and others bent. It must have already had an issue and the weight of the perches did it in. Realistically, Buddy will moving in with Tweetie in a couple of months. I got another cage today that will give Buddy more room but it is a more typical size. I'm hoping he'll spend most of his time out of the cage so the size won't matter much. He's now sitting in the cage preening himself. Thank you Shirls, my cold is beginning to break now and I have more energy today, thank goodness!

Oh Gosh. That must have given you both such a fright. I'm glad Buddy wasn't hurt and that he's taken it all in his stride. He really is a brave little guy.

Thank you criswell. I'm continuously amazed at Buddy's sweet temperament. He does run from my hand but he still is so forgiving.
