Totally. I’m grateful it’s not worse. I wish there had been restrictions and mandatory masks on tubes when I went into London. I think there will be more to come, but not lockdown. If omicron is milder, it’s not a bad thing that people get it, build up immunity. But obviously we don’t know numbers or half of it as it’s not recorded properly.
It’s all horrible. My company, well I’ve left now, saying no one to go in. All wfh
I hope your daughter and bf have a good time. They need to do stuff too, hopefully people were careful

I'm glad you are doing ok ffiscool. I hope you don't feel rough for too much longer. It is a shame that they stopped mandatory masks in England. We kept them here in Wales. Case numbers still went up here but I think it was more likely spreading between people in homes and gatherings where no one was wearing them. At least people who wanted to avoid catching it had more chance of staying safe with everyone wearing a mask. I feel more confident that masks do make a difference, after spending an hour about a metre away from someone who was definitely infectious and not catching covid from her because we were both wearing masks. If I hear anyone saying that masks are a waste of time I now have a mask success story to share with them. ariella I agree it's a shame for the young people not being able to do all the fun things we could do. I don't mind not going out to clubs or parties or the cinema. I'd mostly stopped doing that anyway, but it was nice to have the option to do that when I did want. I hope they had a lovely time ice skating.

Everyone had to do a lateral flow before going, which I think is pretty sensible. My second son is in a band and has a gig next week which he’s been really looking forward to. I’m hoping he gets to play before new measures come in affecting music venues. My eldest has booked a swanky NYE with his gf and some friends for a 7-course dinner with band and disco in a Gatsby theme. They’ve got kitted out for it, though it’s stuff he’ll wear again for work, so nothing will be wasted or not used if it doesn’t go ahead. It is right up his street and sounds very elegant (and expensive) but I wonder how likely it is to go ahead.
They definitely have to forge ahead with their plans and lives. I’ve nagged them all to get their boosters as all are due for them. It is a time for having to go with the flow and accept restrictions when/if they are brought back in.
All of my family are still going into work. My husband is a key worker so he’s never worked from home since the start. My daughter keeps her office locked and appointments are made for paperwork to be collected/dropped off and she unlocks the door to do exchanges with customers and contractors. My second son worked through the last lockdown though was off on full pay through the first and my eldest works from home a fair amount although he’s just got his dream position and it will mean travelling and staying 2 days a week a few hours drive away, but that isn’t starting till January.
You’re right that things aren’t recorded properly and we still need a couple of weeks to see if many deaths occur due to the Omicron variant. The main concern is the pressure on the NHS I think, for all the extra needing to be hospitalised. Morale must be at an all-time low for so many frontline staff. To see another wave coming in must be utterly exhausting in every way possible.

I hope they get to all their things, but I think it could be they get postponed.
Gatsby sounds very sophisticated
Sadly there will always be new variants and they’ll just keep tweaking like the flu

Cases are on the rise now in the US. We're being told there won't be a lockdown but we have to wear masks in public and show our vaccination record to get in restaurants, theaters, stores (except grocery since they are considered essential), doctors' offices, etc. Still no visitors in hospitals and nursing homes.

tweetiepiesmom You'd think they considered Doctors offices essential, odd priorities. I have been trying to get a face to face appt at our GP for Eve for 3 weeks now.

That’s awful Marianne Marlow. Our surgery has been really efficient. Appointments aren’t given out without a online or phone consultation but we have an eConsult system and you can add photos and be very specific and within 24 hours you get a call back from a GP and if they decide it’s something that necessitates a face to face appointment, they make it while you’re on the phone. My son had an awful chest infection that wouldn’t clear and after 6 weeks he used the eConsult and had a phone call and appointment the next day. His oxygen levels were low so they gave him antibiotics and thankfully they did the trick. I hope your GP can see her soon. What reason are they giving for not doing so? Considering she was in hospital recently, you’d think they’d prioritise her.

ariella They didn't give any reason for not giving her a face 2 face appt! We did an econsult and just got a call and a prescription for cream. We were not happy, so went to a&e, got another cream. It got worse so we did another econsult and got more cream and they said that someone would be in touch for a face2face appt. They booked one 2 weeks later. It's next Friday.

I just don't get this with Doctors, why are they so reluctant to open up their surgeries to patients.
That's a disgrace Marianne, especially with a child.

Agree, it's awful. You can't diagnose everything by photos and she can't tell us how she feels. She's scratched her back so much it made it bleed. A&E just said it's a viral rash, we had to make sure it wasn't meningitis as it did not disappear when holding a glass over it. They wont diagnose any sort of skin allergy cos obviously that is not life threatening, so that is the GP's job, but if they will not see her then they cannot refer or diagnose properly! Really boils my blood cos she was in so much discomfort

The reason they give for keeping people away from doctors' offices is that they don't want a bunch of people sitting in the waiting room spreading germs even with face masks! The dentists have solved that. Just like at the vet, when you arrive for your appointment, you call and wait in your car. When they are ready for you, they call you to come in and take you right to the treatment room. But then everyone here (almost) has a car.

Completely shocking for a little girl who has been poorly. Having to wait so long isn’t acceptable and must be beyond frustrating.

I rang the doctors on Wednesday, first time for 4 years, at 8.00 a.m. he rang me at 10.20 and told me to go straight up. I was saw at 10.45 and by 12.45 I had a letter to see a consultant. I said it wasn't urgent and I could wait for an appointment in a few weeks, they said there are no pre-bookable appointments now, just ring at 8.00 a.m. There is some kind of cyst on my back. I couldn't believe it, he didn't know we had private health insurance. He was a young doctor and he fetched a senior doctor in to look. I have arranged to see a consultant in a 3 weeks. Very rare for them to be so efficient.
All children should be see straight away, so awful.

That's amazing Sue. We have to either fill in an econsult or book a telephone appt for 3-4 weeks time.
You can't get any appointment at all by telephoning, the reception just tell you to do an econsult.
