As each day of vote counting passes, it looks more and more like Biden will be our next president. He had a briefing yesterday and said he and Harris met with leading medical officials about the pandemic. Some people are anticipating that he will order a nationwide shutdown and they are stocking up supplies. He hasn't said that he will do that but as has been demonstrated, people will do want they want to. Plenty of time to stock up - he doesn't take office until Jan 20, 2021!

We have a new president - the election has just been called for Joe Biden as president and Kamala Harris as the vice-president. A historic day in the US!!! We hope he will lead us first in getting the pandemic under control followed by a great economic recovery.

Is that a definitive result? Or are there going to be a lot of legal battles? Marianne Marlow there will be legal battles and Trump has announced that his lawyers will be filing on Monday. However the courts have thrown out his filings in the past week because they are not backed up by any evidence. News casters are saying the same will happen with any filings that Trump continues to make. Pennsylvania is the state that gave Biden the number of votes he needed to win the electoral college vote. As other states that are still counting come in, it is expected that Biden's lead over Trump to grow. Even if those states' votes are all for Trump, there are not enough votes for Trump to win. That is why the election has been declared for Biden. The electoral college meets on Dec 14 and then it will be official. Trump cannot change that date - it is the constitution. So, yes everything is pointing to a done deal.

In our news, they were showing the other day that newsreaders were talking over him, when he was saying it’s all cheating. I cannot believe, even though we all know what Trump is, that he’s still behaving like a 5 year old. No one can be bothered any more with him.
I bet Melania is happy, she clearly wasn’t most of the last few years.
Over there, is their marriage seen as being ok?

Melania Trump has been playing the happy housewife through the past four years. Some speculated that she had an agreement drawn up by lawyers that she would stay with him during his presidency. Afterwards she could divorce him and would get a substantial settlement. What wife would be happy with all the stories coming out about his various affairs while they were married.
Trump has a number of legal issues against him related to his business dealings. By law, no one can sue a sitting president so all those things have just been waiting. The state New York had filed a lawsuit against him for tax evasion, there's a lawsuit about a business college he founded which failed and all the students lost their money, just a bunch of stuff. I wondered why people thought he was a good businessman with all the failed businesses he had started. Once he gets out of office, he'll be busy with a lot of unpleasant stuff.

He has thrown his toys out of his pram and spat his dummy out and he's gone to play golf. Sorry couldn't resist, just this once ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

I thought it must be like that for her. Good on you Melania if you are able to walk away
As for Trump, I so hope he gets properly prosecuted - pathetic man
Hopefully any violence over there, demonstrations don’t go on too long

The one thing he won't do is take his bat and ball and go home. Unfortunately.

Right now there are amazing celebrations going on in many cities across the US. People are happy, out in the streets, singing, impromptu bands playing. Amazingly almost everyone is wearing a mask! Not much social distancing but it is outdoors and people are moving around. Such a stark contrast to the angry Trump demonstrators with almost no one wearing a mask, although they are few in number at this point and they are demonstrating away from the Biden celebrators. Police are there but are quietly standing by and letting people have good clean fun. I hope when the sun goes down that the criminal element doesn't come out. Biden is schedule to make a speech in about 30 minutes.

It sounds like he's the biggest crook since Nixon. It looks like he's going to be spending a lot of time in court over the next few years.

What goes around, comes around.
I liked the comment that someone said about Trump putting hig big boy pants on!! Plus, did you hear what he said about Kamala Harris??
I have so enjoyed following this election, it is history in the making after all! Have you noticed how, so far, demonstrations celebrations have all been happy and non-violent? Hope I haven't spoken too soon.

All quiet last night!!! Once it got late, the police declared the gatherings to be unlawful assemblies and asked the people to leave. Many people left immediately and when the others saw that, they left too. No riots, no looting - big sigh of relief!

ffiscool are you not on lockdown? Maybe going to the market is allowed. When we were on lockdown except for going to market, it was amazing how many people needed to go to the market. All stores here have big signs at the entrance saying masks are required. They don't turn people away. Most people do wear a mask. The news today reported record cases in Texas and the hospitals are overwhelmed. They are using an indoor stadium now as a field hospital.
