I'm sure that I put on here a while back a post on the fantastic spider orchid that I was given for Christmas, by my daughter. It flowered for just a short while and the flower spikes died off very quickly. I have been nurturing it, checking the instructions, and keeping my fingers crossed that I wasn't killing it (a leaf went yellow and dropped off!!! ) I am however pleased to say it has sprouted two new shoots, one either side of the original plant: This is the whole plant: This is what the flower will look like when it eventually matures: Perhaps some of you would add to this thread by putting your favourite house-plants on. A little something else to do while you are stuck indoors!!

It's so delicate Shirls. I've never seen an orchid like that.

I was able to get hold of some free dove/pigeon orchids a few days ago. They called it a dove orchid, but it seems it is more commonly called a pigeon orchid ... Dendrobium crumenatum

Beautiful Shirls . I Love orchids, so much so that i have 13 . Most of mine live in the conservatory but when they start to come into flower i move them into the lounge so that i can have the beauty of them when i'm in there. These three are the first to come out and as you see 2 have sprouted baby plants which i can detatch and plant on when they have finished flowering, more orchids

skysmum they're beautiful orchids. Mine always get a bit straggly looking with flower heads growing in any direction they fancy and a lot of escapee roots. I didn't know they could have 'babies' like that. Did you encourage them in any way?

Ive never had them sprout baby's like that before. I can only think that overwintering them in the conservatory where there is lots of natural light could have something to do with it but iv'e no clue really

skysmum plants that thrive on neglect sound perfect for me! Glad the orchid babies came so easily - I might stand a chance of getting one one day

Lovely skysmum. I've had orchids for quite a number of years and never, ever had a baby one! I also had a Christmas cactus ladybird, but when moving house had no room for it so i gave it away. It was huge and stunning. Love yours, it's the same colour that mine was. Mmmm, might have to get another one!

I have a Christmas cactus. I have taken several cuttings from it to give to other people. Mine was late to flower this year. Weirdly I made my daughter a plant from mine and hers flowered earlier than mine. My mum in law bought me this orchid after mum died, I have never had one before but I seem to be doing ok with it so far. I have it on my kitchen windowsill which isn't ideal as its a bit narrow but I was scared of putting it in my porch as it gets full sun in a morning.

I couldn't get any of my orchids to flower except these, so I threw them all away

Stunning helenmat and suesbird. Sue you are really naughty throwing orchids away. They do have a 'rest' period you know!!! I really need want a Christmas cactus again, especially after seeing them on here. And I did just say to my daughter 'I don't want any more plants, I have no room for them'. They are stunning Hezz (Dendrobium crumenatum) just googled them. I've seen them in our local shops I think.

Well they rested for two years๐๐๐. I did as Samwiseg suggested and give them a shock, I did and shocked quite a few of them to death. I'm usually really good with plants but orchids don't like me๐
I do like a nice plant, I was after one in the garden centre a few months ago for the living room. Well,of course, the one I wanted was at the back. Later that week at our local pub, the landlord asked me if I now worked at the garden centre because all he could see was a head poking through these really large plants๐๐๐๐
My beautiful pink clematis will be out in a few days, it is climbing all over the pergola, it is lovely, the type with a dainty four petal flower.

I really am truly sorry about that suesbird ! There must have been something more than met the eye with them to do that It's so lovely to see everybody's got some house plants! I personally couldn't live without them I have 2 orchids which I absolutely ADORE, my 40th birthday one:
Thought I had taken a picture of my "Pongo" orchid as I call it But cant find it, so got a picture from google to show you what it looks like:
And of course my BELOVED Oxalis (that is now so HUGE my OH is worried about pulling the curtains) so he damages it!

Does anyone know if it would be ok to put my orchid in the porch or would it be too hot. It has sun on it up till 1pm windows on 3 sides?
