Hi everyone thank you so much for your kind messages. Sky is about the same.. I spoke to the exotic vet who was lovely and she said Sky isn’t really stable for an x-ray today because of her breathing (she said at times it’s laboured and also worse on handling, clicking and bubbles etc) not that I’m sure I want to put her through that... just wish I could see her and talk to her but I’m not allowed in the building. She’s still not eating but pretending to eat, so we agreed to see how she goes today but she’s still got diarrhea and straining which she thinks probably is her liver but without an x ray they don’t know for sure and even then whether it’s treatable. It would be selfish of me to bring her home unless she’s eating by herself and not got diarrhea because with even just one of those problems they can go downhill fast and have organ failure. I just want to comfort her She has continued to force feed her today and yesterday and she is having antibiotics via injection, I’m just at a loss as to what to do. Obviously if she isn’t stable to have an x-ray I can’t see how it’s fair of me to bring her home and watch her decline/suffer as she won’t eat/has dirreha? But then if she is ‘stable’ do I put her through an anaesthetic (which is £200 alone and I feel like an awful owner having to mention price but it is a problem for me I’m ashamed to admit). Will an x-ray really reveal anything that is realistically going to be treatable? I’m just very confused right now and I hate that she’s far away from me as well. Oh I meant to mention her poo and crop samples were both negative. Ultimately I just don’t want her to suffer needlessly and I’m cautious of prolonging her suffering, if that makes sense. I miss her so much. It goes without saying that I hope you’re all keeping well and safe right now too, I appreciate your support/advice especially as I haven’t been on in a while, thank you for always being here all of you x

Sol has been his usual happy self, I don’t know if he is confused where Sky has gone or not? I mean, I’m glad he is fine, but I do feel sad for him. He’s been a lot more needy wanting to be on me but he is enjoying having all of my attention on him! X (I also know Sol needs to lose weight... he’s a very lazy budgie and would rather talk than fly, in between eating of course!).

These little creatures cause us so much worry and grief.
I hope she starts eating Becca.
Keeping fingers crossed you have Sky home soon xxx

I am so sorry Sky is ill and I hope she soon improves with treatment. It doesn't sound pleasant but I'm sure she won't hate you, if anything she will hate the vet and be super pleased to see you again when she comes home. I understand that money is an issue, I'm just on a basic state pension myself so it would certainly worry me if BertieB needed expensive treatrment, but I'm sure I'd scrape it together somehow. I would ask the vet for an honest opinion. My main concern would be making the difficult decision of putting my pet through a long and unpleasant treatment and deciding what was best and kindest.
Sending hugs and positive thoughts x

mintysowner I am sorry that you are going through this with Sky, it's so hard when they are sick. I hope she starts eating soon. Are they saying that they will give her an anesthetic for the x-ray, it doesn't sound as though she will be well enough for that. I have always avoided x-rays for my budgies as I have been worried that they would not survive an anesthetic. I know that peoples budgies have survived them.

Thank you for your well wishes <3 I’ve been trying to visualise Sky and think positive things (May sound a bit crazy ) and I’ve also told Sol to send her some of his energy (he’s going crazy tweeting as I type this lol). So she is about the same, she did nibble on some apple but hasn’t eaten any seeds herself. I’ve given them permission to go ahead with an x-ray and take it from there but I know there is a risk this may kill her. The thing is, leaving her won’t get us anywhere either and I fear she would have to be put to sleep anyway so I’ve decided to take the risk under the vets advice. I’ll have to figure out payment afterwards. She said about some bloods too so I said if she needs to do that then do it all under anaesthetic and get it out of the way. I’m already worrying about her not surviving this and I just hope she forgives me for all of these horrible things! Sadly she is an hour away otherwise if she was closer we said I could’ve maybe taken her home to try and persuade her to eat in her own environment - but she could go downhill quickly. Hope that makes some sense - I didn’t sleep and I’m not normally awake this early due to my ME (although it looks like it’s going to be another beautiful day outside). I hope you’re all doing ok xx

Visualising Sky and thinking positive things and encouraging Sol to send her positive energy, is not silly at all.
I completely understand the need to do something positive. I'll visualise her too and think positive things.
I really do hope she survives the x-ray and they find out and cure the issue.
Hugs to you, Sky and Sol.

Just an update, Sky made it through the anaesthetic but obviously it’ll take a few hours for her body to recover now. Everything looked normal apart from a shadow beside her oesophagus which could be a mass, possibly an ulcer but she is waiting for blood to come back tomorrow to make sure it’s not a problem with the functioning of her liver/kidneys etc. If it’s a mass obviously nothing we can do... but she is scared so I’m just eager to see her when I can before we make a further decision tomorrow with all of the results. Thank you for keeping her in your thoughts, I can't wait to see her soon.

mintysowner I'm so glad Sky made it through OK. Hopefully the new information may make it a bit easier for you to decide what to do. I really feel for what you are going through, it's awful and is no wonder you can't sleep. I'm sending you lots of positive thoughts and hoping your little girl is home safe soon.

Poor Sky. I am so glad that she made it through. I hope what the vet has discovered via xray and blood tests will help her.
Will she come home today or stay at the vets and be tube fed?

Thank you so much for thinking of us! I’m waiting for the vet to ring now to let me know how she’s been all day since the x-ray. Marianne she is still in there and being force fed, she is also still on the antibiotics and an anti inflammatory. I hope so much when the vet rings she tells me she’s tried to eat a bit herself... she was going to try her with some strawberry as I said it was her favourite. I realise everyone is different but I wondered what you’d all do if she was yours? If they say it’s ‘just’ a mass and it’s causing her to be this unwell and it’s pressing on organs do you think it’s the kindest thing to let her go now? If it’s a liver problem AND a mass, do I try liver meds and see if that makes a difference for her? I also can’t afford to keep her in the vets as it’s £40/£50 a day so she can’t (obviously!) be force fed indefinitely. Would it be selfish of me to bring her home and see if she eats/drinks here despite being poorly? I’m just cautious of the fact she could go downhill quickly and her poos are still not right meaning without food/drink she will likely be worse than she is now. I feel very torn, I know either way I will travel to be with her whether it’s our last time together or not as I can’t not see her whilst she’s still here. Hope you’re all enjoying the warmer weather we’ve been having xx
