As usual I have information overload from the vet, but in short, Perry has a high temperature so we must get it down as soon as possible. She gave him an injection for this & I have medication to give over the next 48 hours. She is coming again tomorrow to check his temperature. We also have antibiotics in the water in case the temperature is because of an infection. He had a little slurp of that this evening. I dug out my electric fan but it's not working. The vet also took a look at Lennie's feather situation. She's going to test for PFBD. She doesn't think it's mites but says it wouldn't hurt to give spot-on.

How marvelous that you have an avian vet that does house calls - so much less stressful for the budgies! Glad she was able to sort out a possible cause. Hope Perry is soon better.

Poor boy. Never think about buds having temperatures. Glad she came to you. Re the fan, maybe a fuse in the plug. I hope the meds help and he feels a bit better.

That makes sense. Fever in children can cause seizures so why not birds? Hopefully the injection and antibiotics will help. (The thought of a little bird having an injection makes me sad.
Suggestion from someone who knows very little, but I have ice packs in my freezer for aches and pain, and cold sinks, so would one of those on top of the cage be helpful?

Perry is still with us but seems worse. He eats a little millet when offered & has had a slurp of water but otherwise is just quiet & sleeping. No poops either which makes me wonder if there is now a blockage of some sort... It's very, very quiet here. Lennie is barely eating (or pooping) though I think that's because he's stressed & worried. Vet is coming around 3pm. I had to give Perry his dose of medicine this morning & put it on some millet but he was horrified by it so I had to do it the hard way by catching him. I *think* he got the dose. They insist on making a liar of me... as I was about to hit send, Perry pooped, followed by Lennie. Proper formed poops too.

The blades of the fan move, albeit at a barely noticeable speed, so I think it's the motor. I had problems with the fan last summer & had to oil it a few times. I've ordered one from Argos that will be here in a few days.

I can't watch when she does anything like an injection. Can't bear watching a crop feed either! That's a good idea about the ice packs. When Bezukhov was ill & had a high temperature (possibly higher than Perry's) she suggested I bathe him at regular intervals, getting water under his wings, anywhere there would be more skin contact.
