Perhaps someone with more experience with budgie group dynamics should offer an opinion on splitting your mom's pair and adding Cookie to your mom's flock - Hezz Marianne Marlow. From what I've read, even with a bonded pair, you can separate them and introduce them to a new friend. It may take a few days but budgies adapt. However, you and your mom know the budgies best and you are the best ones to decide. Is there an older budgie that you can adopt? Of course, you'd have to quarantine for 30 days and you'd have to put up with the noise of 2 curious birds tweeting back and forth. I hope you're doing better. I can't imagine having a migraine (I do occasionally have them) and listening to two budgies screaming.

Even the twitching of his wing could be nerves that are effected. Hope the vet can see you immediately. Help is coming little Breezie!

George was twitchy like this just before his stroke. It doesn't mean that is what is happening to Breezie, he may be in pain and/or unable to get comfortable.
If you have something soft on the floor for him to land on if he falls, I'm not sure what else you can do tonight.

Poor little guy. You are doing everything you possibly can and I'm sure having you there will be of comfort to him. Look after yourself though too and try to get some rest if you can.

I wonder if it’s nerve pain too/pins and needles type. Hopefully he’ll get some sleep and I hope you can get him sorted soon.

The way he hasn’t been able to hold his leg up, as he would if the leg was broken further down, and the immediate regression back to how he was before with the fall makes me think there is some physical damage to the leg - possibly dislocated hip. That may explain his gradual improvement and present relapse. (That’s just me thinking aloud with my fingertips.)
If you want to give him something to help ease his pain, milk thistle, cayenne pepper, ginger and turmeric are all possibly helpful, particularly turmeric as it is known to help with nerve tingles.

We took him on an emergency visit to the vet in the morning. I'm trying to consolidate what he said.. He said he wouldn't give any medicine right now to him. He has prescribed a homeopathy medicine.
He said he could have a shoulder injury and he is having trouble with the same nerve that passes down, that would have rendered his right foot paralytic like that. He asked me to massage his affected foot to keep circulation on, so that it doesn't turn black for the worse & he starts mutilating himself. He said the birdie flock would try to get rid of the weak bird, so I should be careful. By the way he talked, it seemed like worse is yet to come sooner or later. He said I shouldn't expect him to recover just like that. But also, he said that there are birdies living well with one foot.
I feel so bad and heart broken looking at him. He is so uncomfortable. He is sleeping in my room away from other birdies and I slept too for a few hours. He is at least eating seeds, preening and trying to sleep. He keeps doing some movement every few second with his good foot too. He doesn't look good and I don't have any other vet for a second opinion too. He is just so young to go through all of this pain 😔 I feel so helpless and can't help blaming myself for his situation.
I will try giving him what Hezz mentioned above and whatever I know about nerve helping food. I can't do anything else right now, apart from that.
Thank you for the support everyone..

Oh mona I am so sorry to hear that the vet was not able to help more. It's horrible feeling helpless when they are poorly. I am keeping my fingers crossed that you are all able to rest and things start to improve soon.

So sorry the vet couldn't give you better news. I think nerve damage is the worst because it is so very slow to recover from if at all. Breezie knows how much you love him.

Oh Mona, so sorry that it wasn't better news from the vet I really hope that you see some improvement with the suggested foods and supplements. Without knowing exactly what's causing his condition it may be that any of them helps him to feel better and he knows you are there taking such good care of him. You need to take care of yourself though too, it will be easier to make decisions and cope with everything if you have some rest so please do try, even if you only manage to rest alongside him. Thinking of you all.

Hezz how would you give the turmeric and would you recommend powdered forms of the cayenne pepper, ginger and turmeric? I've tried powdered cayenne pepper in Willow's water in the past but it seemed to float on the surface. I kept giving the water a stir but wasn't sure if there was a better way to administer?

Oh no mona, what a horrible setback. Poor Breezie has really been through so much this year. He deserves to heal after all the care you’ve given. I hope so much that he shows signs of being in less pain in the next day or so. Has Cookie been screaming for him since he moved into your room? Really hope she’s not and will be content chirping along with your mum’s buds. Importantly, keep looking after yourself as this must be incredibly stressful and partnered with your migraines and sleep deprivation, you must be feeling rotten. You really are an amazing bird mummy. 🧡

Cookie screamed in the afternoon when she didn't see Breezie around. I had to bribe her with food.. But he needed a silent place to rest, so he was in my room till evening. He's back to the birdie room near Cookie since the evening. He might feel better with birdies around than being with me in my room. Will take him back here in my room during the day, if he looks like he wants to sleep..
I'm doing better.. but just exhausted.. I wish for him to be better too and my mind is full of unnecessary chatter 🤦♀️ which won't do any good. Good thing is that he ate mung beans and herbal tea. He finished all greens: grasses, coriander, mint.. He was not able to break seeds, so we got him softer food and he ate it.. he drank a lot of water too.. We got some spinach too.. Right now, I want him to eat whatever he likes.. so we have all his favorite items ready at home.. We got Arnica 200 from homeopathy clinic for him in evening.. will see if he takes it tomorrow.. The vet said to give it if I want to.. I'm not sure yet, I'll see how he is doing tomorrow..
I was able to find some millet sprays too from South.. I had to follow up with him for more than 10 days, but he is finally shipping it.. I need millet spray baubles to divert his mind when trying to massage his foot. He doesn't let me touch it otherwise..
My poor baby is suffering too much.. So much pain for such a tiny birdie.. He was very irritated yesterday when he couldn't sleep.. today too he has been irritated and frustrated.. He did chirp very briefly once.. His preening is so aggressive right now.. so far he isn't plucking anything or chewing his foot.. He just seems angry at that time..

So sorry for what you and Breezie are going through. My opinion, I'd give him the Arnica but you have to keep giving him it. As you know, natural/herbal remedies take time to work.

willowsmum I normally boil everything in water to make a herbal tea and give that to them - with fresh ingredients or dried ones.. Mine doesn't eat it any other way.. I have tried sprinkling some cayenne powder on mung beans when it's a bit wet (so that he doesn't inhale it), but he doesn't seem to like it..
