But your idea regarding greens/herbs is a good one.

It's oral liquid medication, but not mixed with water - directly to be fed into his beak, one drop from the dropper that came with the medicine..
He seemed puffed up, so I have set up a heat lamp over half the cage, so that he can move if he doesn't need it. He is responding back to cookie and me and singing in a low voice, once in a while. He seems to have some energy back. I hope he continues to improve.
Sorry to flood the forum with my posts and really thank you everyone for the support. I really appreciate it from the depth of my heart. 🧡

It seems like he has rapid breathing. If I look at his chest/stomach, I can see fast breathing. This is whenever he is resting/sleeping. Should I take him to the vet clinic tomorrow? Does it look the same to others too? I switched off the fan to check his tail bobbing.
In the evening, when he sees the handkerchief and the medicine, he is scared of me and starts breathing via beak, since he knows I'm going to catch him to feed med..

I know it hurts your feelings when he gets scared at your hand and handkerchief. Tweetie Pie did the same when I had to catch him to give him his medicine. I promise you he'll get over it - my timid skittish Tweetie Pie did.
Part of what he is doing is learning to rebalance himself on one foot all the time. I looked at the video of his panting. It looks to me like he may be having difficulty relaxing while perched on his good foot.
I think you are perhaps worrying too much that he is getting enough water. If his poops look good, then he's getting enough water. Remember that greens and veggies contain a lot of water in them. Also the lentils have a lot of water - that's why they swell when soaked and cooked. You can also make him a mash with the cooked lentils and other "beans" you use to make sprouts.
I suggest you take him in to see his new vet. Can you go into the exam room with him? I know I always have more questions during the exam. The vet will most likely manipulate his foot/leg during the exam and it will be helpful for you to see how he reacts when she does that. Be sure to talk to him during the exam - it will him to be not so stressed.
Be sure to take care of yourself. Its normal to get stressed when these things happen to our little budgies but when we're stressed we don't always think straight and give them the same attention as when we're not stressed.

mona, I’m sorry but just had a mad 24 hours and only just caught up on Breezie’s condition. I can tell how vigilant you’re being and it’s so horrible when we’re worried and upset about an unwell animal part of the family, so I totally understand. You’ve received so much fantastic advice and I am certainly not experienced enough to offer anything different. I really hope Breezie continues to eat, preen, sing and that you see him actively seeking and drinking his water. Please don’t apologise about posting so much. I am a member of this forum (and one other for tortoises) because I like to learn and there’s always, always, plenty to learn from being able to share with like-minded people who want to do the very best they can for their animals. I struggle to understand people who buy a pet, get all the “recommended” products from the pet shop and never do any research to find out what their animal really needs. How is Cookie doing without Breezie?

I don’t think his breathing is too bad. Yes, there is a bit of a tail-bob, and he isn’t totally comfortable on his perch on one leg all the time, possibly in a little pain still, but you can’t make him rest and have a lie down (unfortunately). Good to hear that the heat lamp seems to be helping him; he doesn’t need to be using energy keeping his core temp up.
Another question - how long does he pant for after giving him his meds? Misty has always been a rather nervous bird and tends to pant when I’ve had to hold him and tend to his needs. He pants for a short time afterwards but then settles down with no obvious side effects.

tweetiepiesmom They are allowing me with Breezie inside. I went in that day along with Breezie, but the vet said his feet is too fragile to check, since he wasn't able to hold it up & was hanging down. These meds are until Tuesday.. might take him there on Tuesday again to look at his feet this time. I'll keep in mind about stress & everything else you have mentioned. Hezz He doesn't pant for long - until the time I leave him to be on his own and get the millets to give to him for positive reinforcement. I think he is scared of me sometimes during the day and pants, maybe thinking I'll grab him again. Yesterday night, I didn't see him panting or breathing very heavily. He ate on his own right now in the morning too. ariella Thank you. Cookie is doing okay. Letting her out on his cage in first half really helps calm her down. She screams in the 2nd half for some time though - I think I might be too attentive towards Breezie. She might have felt ignored - by me & Breezie both.. I don't pamper her the same way I do.. I tried addressing that yesterday.. She seems a bit more attentive at night and sometimes scared alone in the cage. I can hear her running around on her feet and eating at 3am. She is still exploring the cage corners and sometimes chewing on cage bars or pushing on the side window or door to get to Breezie. Breezie responded to some of her contact calls and he tried to scream too, along with her. I'm keeping it quiet, so the radio was turned on for only an hour or two when Breezie was active too, so she gets bored sometimes and complains back to me when I chat with her.. I think I'm too much worried. I'll try to stay calm. He seems to do better and it will take some time.. He tried wagging his tail too. Edit: The vet also said it could be the stress of balancing on one feet. She has asked me to bring Breezie to the clinic on Wednesday, to look at his health and feet issue. She really listens well and doesn't finish the conversation in a hurry. I haven't seen any vet over here following up, concerned and consulting like them. I hope the experience with them turns out to be good..

It sounds like you've found a good vet for both you and Breezie! We're all pulling for Breezie to get well.

He seems better. He is still picky about his favorite food, but he eats enough to get him energy for the day to preen and chirp a bit. He needs heat lamp at times and he lets me know when he doesn't want it, by flapping his wings, moving to other side of cage etc. Foot recovery might be a long way to go (or might not recover - not sure). He perches on the double perch tied together most of the time.
With the evening medicine, I think he is getting less nervous day by day. He still accepts food and treats from my hand. But he makes sure to check if I have the dropper and handkerchief in my hand to react. I'm just worried about hurting his right affected foot when trying to grab him..

Thanks for the update - good to hear he is improving. My doctor told me that nerves do heal but are the slowest of all body parts to heal. It will take time but hopefully it will heal so he can use his foot again.

It sounds like a positive step forward mona. Come on Breezie! As tweetiepiesmom said, we’re all rooting for him.

We had a visit to the vet today. She said he looks much better and asked to continue meds for next 10 days and bring him again after that. She also looked at his poop to check any side effects of the meds.
She said it isn't deficiency or fracture, but an internal injury that went on for too long and has become chronic. So it will take time. Her diagnosis is: The inflammation from the foot had spread till leg, so he couldn't hold his leg up. Now, he can hold his leg on the perch, but doesn't have any grip. She also said that his foot might not go back to normal entirely.. maybe 70 percent or so.. but not like his left foot. Since I was already prepared for this, it didn't come as a shock to me. However, I can always stay hopeful. They said the same for my hubby post stroke, but he recovered 99 percent.
She asked me to move soaked seeds/beans, veggie chops to morning, pellets in afternoon and seeds in evening.
Breezie is learning new tactics to avoid meds. He has started turning his head into the handkerchief.. I do hold his head/neck softly, since I'm afraid of being too forceful.. so he takes that opportunity to turn his head to hide his beak in the handkerchief, just like a lil kid. Half dose has to be given to him forcefully and then he takes other half calmly opening his beak. That calmness could also be actually freezing out of fear 🤦♀️. Millets after the meds really help him not to hate me for grabbing him..
For now, he stays in his cage until he is good enough to be with Cookie. Cookie seems to loose interest in him and is engaged in shredding inside the cage. Tried luring her out with breezie's singing video.. she runs to the mobile when she hears.. she came out for a minute or so and went in back.
She has suggested Zupreem pellets (US origin), but those are colored ones. I know it from reading everywhere here that colored ones aren't good. But then i don't see any non colored ones over here.. so really wondering what to do..
The seed mix is a Poland based brand called Vitapol, but it had some sunflower seeds and colored bits. I have picked out all sunflower seeds and colored bits from their new seed mix, suggested by the vet.
The seed mix ingredients: Analytical Constituents :
Crude Protein : 10.4 % Crude Fat : 4.1 % Crude Fiber : 10.67 % Moisture : 12 % Raw Ash : 2.5 %
Ingredients : Yellow Millet, White Millet, Red Millet, Canary Grass Seed, Millet Groats, Oats Groats, Black Sunflower Seeds, Flax Seeds, White Sunflower Seeds, Wheat Flour, Corn Flour, Powdered Anise, Alfalfa Meal, Carotene.

It sounds promising as definitely an improvement, which obviously there might not have been.
I’m sure the grip will come, these things do take time whether human or not.
Clever eh, anything to avoid meds lol. You’d think they’d make them millet flavour…

I was so tempted to taste the med to see how good or bad it tastes. I love the idea of millet flavoured medicine 😍

Good news that he continues to improve and that the vet thinks he'll get most of the function back. When I first brought Buddy home he was eating the Zupreem fruity pellets that are colored. His poops were orange and bright green!. I took him off those. I now give my guys a bit of the Harrison's "Adult Lifetime Super Fine" which my vet recommended for them. I don't know if you can get it where you live. store.harrisonsbirdfoods.com/ADULT-LIFETIME-SUPER-FINE/productinfo/ASF01/
