Thank you Hezz. I have soaked some seeds just now to feed him in evening. I have millet seeds..he has access to those too - whatever he eats.. he has leafy greens, some homegrown grass, millet seeds, his old seed mix, cooked lentils.. He is eating up a little whatever he feels like and seems a bit better than yesterday. Poor baby. I should have tried finding a local vet earlier.. I hope he gets better eventually.

Poor you and poor Breezie. It's awful when they are ill.
Is he any better today?

He seemed better than yesterday Marianne Marlow. He was very inactive yesterday. Today he ate little of everything - not his actual diet, but still better. He did preen his feathers a bit, chirped twice and moved around a bit. His leg was hanging half of the time down and sometimes he was able to hold it up. tweetiepiesmom The head stroke works.. he stays calm for a while. I had to give him the med alone, since hubby was late, but that worked well.

I wonder if something is pressing on a nerve somewhere, but hopefully the anti inflammatory will help a lot

I wonder if something is pressing on a nerve somewhere, but hopefully the anti inflammatory will help a lot Something pressing on the nerve was my first thought after watching his video, but that doesn’t explain the swelling on his toe. mona, if he is still having trouble balancing, does he have a platform perch, and if so, does he use it, will he have a rest and a lie down on it? Another thought that may help him, something I’ve done for Mango (she has displaced hips due to chronic egg laying problems, and one leg she has very little control over), is to put ... I’ve used three ... some thinner perches close together so that they are in a line. Mango’s bad leg also has a bent (useless) toe so she finds it really hard to grip a normal perch. The three thinner perches allow he feet to get some grip and give her something to use her beak on to help her get her other foot right. It may not help Breezie since he is still perching upright, but it may just give him an extra something to balance on.

I'm so blank about the underlying reason for his feet Hezz & ffiscool .. I hope these vets can find it out.. at least till then if he eats and drinks well and stays healthy otherwise.. I have placed a platform perch near him. He rested on it for just one min or so and isn't using it now. I have arranged 2 thin perches together at one corner - he does rest there and sleep at night on that perch, then switches to a thicker perch during the day, sometimes a thinner perch. I have just added all types of perches, so that he can choose whichever feels comfortable to him. Though he doesn't seem like he will fall down, have added a thick hand towel beneath the cage liner on the cage grid.. he has seeds near his perch and at other place too. Many times, he just looks at the seeds and doesn't eat until I move it close to him (even if he has it near him). Seeing me eat in front of him or saying 'wow, yummy yummy' does encourage him to try and eat.. he does use his beak to turn around on the perch He sang for a minute today in a feeble voice. Also, called out twice. He is preening a lot more today - almost like regular times. He eats millet seeds or his old seed mix and other leafy greens a little bit. I'm getting lettuce today for him and have managed to feed him water with leafy greens dipped with water. He doesn't want to drink at all. He ate the soaked seeds and soaked mung beans. His diet is better than that day. He's also tucking his head back again. He does sleep a lot, but I think that's needed. I'm keeping radio off and the room silent. However, I have seen him breathe heavily with open mouth 3 times until now since morning - I cannot understand if he is feeling hot or cold or exhausted.. He has been leaning his body on his left foot since past 2 days and transferring weight on his body too sometimes - his left feet looks tired to me... His poops are normal. Poor boy is also moulting at this time. I'm observing him for a few more hours and will call the local vet we had visited. I intend to find the bird glucose solution mentioned by Hezz in the threads to give that to him, if it's weakness.

He sits like this half of the time since past 2 days. I just wonder why doesn't he sit on the platform perch to give some rest to his feet.. Poor baby.. My heart goes out to him. He must be feeling terrible. I had also wrapped jute and some paper bag handles on the perches.. but he seemed uncomfortable and unable to use those, so I removed everything again. Had removed thin perches too, but added it again after he wasn't able to balance on thick perches. I think he is experimenting it too.. He sang for a minute today morning. I have never seen him so dull ever, since the time he is with me.

Probably a silly question, but can you make the platform perch so it's the highest point in the cage?
Was wondering if he would feel safer to use it then?

Marianne Marlow It's not silly at all. Every little suggestion matters.. I wondered about it just a while back. I will do that.. It could be. It's a bit lower than the two perches he is using..

I'm willing to try anything that could help him. I have added a wider platform perch on the same level as the highest perch and added millets there - if he moves and finds place comforting. If he doesn't, will try moving the two perches around it a bit lower.
I don't think he has any grip.. his leg falls down at certain times.. rest of the time he can at least keep it on a perch and rarely he picks up his leg in the position to tuck in (though he can't curl toes). It's very miserable seeing him like this. I really feel guilty about not putting enough efforts earlier to find a reputed local non avian vet..Maybe I took it lightly that it will heal on its own.. 😔 I couldn't sleep at all yesterday when I saw him breathing heavily once. Though he slept well after that. In future, for even a minor issue, I'm going to take them to a vet to avoid so much pain for these lil buds. Though none are avian vets, but that's the best that can be done. The vet services aren't as costly other countries.

If you feel he isn’t eating enough or drinking enough, an organic baby food might be a better option than just the hydrating solution, as you can add water to it for more moisture, if he will feed, that is. What are his poops like? Plenty of them and normal?
You said that it seems though he is not sure what to try, experimenting on what might work and what doesn’t, well that is what we are all doing when something untowards happens and we have to find an answer on the hop. Mango has a platform perch but doesn’t use it either; she prefers to hang upside down, even preens herself this way. The fact that Breezie is preening himself is a good thing as well. When a bird stops preening, you know they have to conserve valuable energy.
You can’t bet yourself up about not recognising the severity of his problem in the beginning. You can only work with what you can observe. In the beginning it seemed to point to an injury, however obvious it is now that that is not the case.

Number of poops seem regular to me - overnight and till now - white green and most with urine. He is eating seeds and millets and preening really well. He is very adamant on not drinking water, so I am trying to trick him to get some water with grasses and green leafy veggies dipped in water. Once he realizes there's water on it, he doesn't touch it again. Lettuce and veggie stems might help there. I'm doubtful about breathing and dehydration? He drinks a lot of water normally - around 8 to 9 drops/sips a day. I'll check organic baby food too and keep it with me, just in case.
The vet said since there is improvement in his condition, to continue his medicines as per course. For breathing issue, she asked me to observe when it happens and if it continues, she has asked me to call tomorrow morning to decide whether to take him to their clinic or not. She said it could be due to stress. I saw him panting once after preening. I'll observe.

I have not read this entire thread but are you feeding medication orally? (how much and is it already mixed with water?)if so it may be why he's not drinking.
If he has urine in his droppings then he's definitely ingesting some fluids.
