Thank you everyone.
I'm not giving up on the little tyke yet and neither is nurse Snowy.
I am sure I remember reading that Apple Cider Vinegar can shrink tumours so I am going to look into that.
Plus get the rescue remedy for him so at least he can be a bit calmer at budgie bed times.

I'm sorry to hear that news Marianne. It must have been difficult for you to hear that from the vet. You're right not to give up on him, I do hope the things you are doing to help him really make a difference and you find something that will give you more time with him.

Thank you. I am not the type to give up so easily. Not after I have fought to keep my birds even though I'm allergic!

I am so sorry to hear about Blueboy, Marianne, but don't give up hope ((hugs)) I have been dealing with a similar thing with Milly who has a tumour on her bottom and the vet said he couldn't say how long she has left. This was before christmas and she is still a happy healthy little girl (just with a big bum lol) she is active, eating well, and still bossing around the others despite her being the littlest . Anyway my point is to keep positive as vets can't really judge the time scale of these things, enjoy your time with Blueboy and make sure to spoil him

Not the news you wanted. I'd been thinking the iodine things wasn't necessarily the main problem.
How does the vet diagnose a tumour?

Poor, poor Blueboy! That is not good news Marianne. I have not heard that about apple cider vinegar and tumours - I could have tried that on Bluey! Did the vet indicate where the tumour is? Did he xray Blueboy, or just feel around? How long you have him for will depend on how quickly it is growing. So sorry the news wasn't better.

I could do with all the hopeful stories right now! Not the news you wanted. I'd been thinking the iodine things wasn't necessarily the main problem.
How does the vet diagnose a tumour? He used a stethoscope to listen to Blueboy, felt around a lot and also said that Blueboy is leaning slightly meaning his tumour is pressing on a nerve in the leg. I also told him that he squats and makes a straining noise when he makes droppings and this was another sign. Tumour is around the stomach area, No X-rays, just feeling and discussing symptoms. He's been having symptoms for about 8 months so the tumour isn't growing that fast.

Blueboy is lively today. He's obviously had some sleep at night for the first time in months too. He was still last night and didn't make a single distressed peep or gagging noise. He's even standing more upright today and has an appetite like a horse

The iodine injection has helped his enlarged thyroid (posture and breathing are better) and the steroids gave him an appetite.

Not in the seed mix no, but they all used the block apart from him I am wondering also if the tumour inhibited the consumption of iodine if that is possible. Already on the case Stace. I have been adding iodine in small amounts to their water for about 3-4 months now. Since I went to the last vet and told her I thought he had iodine deficiency and she didn't believe me and gave his aspergillosis meds.
