Yes, baby budgies do like to huddle together, so this might be an indication of just how young these two are.

From their looks I think they’re probably close to two months at least, but Bluey could even be six weeks and eating on her own. Even if they are nine weeks they would still be very young, and some budgies take longer to leave their “baby phase” for their “juvenile phase”. Either way, very young indeed. I really really hope they pull through!

They slept like this a few days back with greenie. Bluey used to keep her head above greenie's head or below too.. right now these two sometimes sleep like this, probably when afraid. But snowy doesn't like it. Bluey keeps trying to preen her too. I'm randomly calling them her. They were also eating from my hand and playing all around, snowy shredding the paper.. but after greenie passed away they have been super afraid. They saw me taking him away. We keep their cage just uncovered a bit on the window side. I have seen them playing a bit when they don't see us. They have started blinking at me. I can't believe some one can give away such young budgies. I have no experience with baby budgies.. are they too young to be separated from their mom? Their poop count did increase. Not sure if they vomited again during the day. We didn't deep clean the cage yesterday since they were so afraid. But it's definitely vomit, since we can smell it. We cleaned up everything today evening, after seeing them more active. Mom's telling me not to keep my hopes high, but I'm hopeful looking at them today.. not looking at poop quality right now. Just that they are eating those tiny crushed husk free human grade millets and drinking water. They don't know how to break open the seed too. We tried giving them the seedmix on day two.. Snowy did take a bath today - that might mean she is feeling better? They both drank acv water - very dilute and grasses too. I saw them playing a bit with the swing and trying to shred perches and ladder. I don't think they know yet how to shred. We could hear them chirp today - both have baby voices. They are preening too. That all makes me hopeful.. Based on actions, bluey seems younger sometimes, but she can fly better than snowy. Snowy isn't good at flying high up, even from cage base to the middle perch.. she needs two perches to hop. Bluey's vent was all green feathers yesterday. Her poops were all wet. But today it seemed better. Yesterday's bluey's body shivers or tremors were weird. That made me think that they'll not make it. I hope they do. We could relax a bit today!

It sounds like they’re definitely on the right track. Fingers crossed it continues, but signs are promising

It does sound more promising. Poor little babies have been through a lot - first moved to a new home and then having lost greenie, it seems natural that they'd be fearful. Like we tell all new people, it just takes patience. If you think they are having trouble eating, maybe soaked seeds would be better or soft food maybe cooked and mashed lentils? They may have been taken away from their dad before he could show them how to eat seeds. Hezz and anyone else - would it be a good idea to put one of mona mom's adult males with them to show them how to eat seeds? For just a little while?

I think they are well old enough to be feeding themselves. They should be self-sufficient from around five weeks old (usually starting earlier) - foraging and cracking seed for themselves, and if they are perching and flying, which they should do around the same time, they are definitely not too young to be away from their parents.

By the looks of them I agree with Hezz. They must be at minimum six weeks, and my initial gut feeling was about two months at least. Maybe Bluey is a tiny bit younger, but I wouldn’t be putting any strange adult in with babies that were not fully weaned anyway. You never know what the adult will think of them or how he will react. Also, I wouldn’t want the adult bird to catch anything from these guys (if they still have lice or anything else)! Introductions should definitely wait until after quarantine. You’re doing well Mona! At least they are eating what they can, and when you notice their appetite increase a little more I would try offering more variety of cooked soft food and soaked seed mix. But I know you’ve already been doing all that so just keep it up!

Bluey's vent was all dirty and blocked, maybe. We cleaned her up a bit and she can poop now. But her poops aren't well formed and are smelly.. Snowy's poops are well formed and okay. Snowy had been helping Bluey to clean her vent too..
They finished off all the huskfree millets that were there on their food dish and ignored the crushed ones... maybe they feel better than before.. 🤞

Hopefully her poops will improve, but it does sound like things are improving 🤞

It does sound like they are improving. It takes a bit of time for their systems to make the transition from one type of food to another but they'll be better off with the good food you'll be feeding them.

Both of them seem to have almost normal poop and comparatively cleaner vents.. Bluey's poop is still not well formed. We didn't want to conclude on it yesterday, but it's the same today. They are eating, drinking and playing a bit. They are learning to scream or chirp from the other birdies. It's cute to hear, but we don't know which one of them makes that noise. They are comfortable and themselves when they can't see us, so we leave the cage cover on our side down. They have been in the drawing room, since it was sudden and we didn't make space for them. And then we didn't move them, since they were scared. There's no door between kitchen and living room, so we are thinking to shift them to the room mom is in. That has the same view from window as living room.. we try to keep it low but it's difficult.

I can imagine how tricky it is to make sure they are settled. I am sure they were scared when they first came and then Green died.
You're doing a great job though and I am glad they seem healthy.

We shifted them to another guest room near the glass door.. and they were super happy, as opposed to what we had imagined. They are learning to fly and land.. it's the next room to birdie room, so they can hear each other better.. it's all so cute to watch. Do we need to take any special care for these young budgies? We follow the same as others..
Both of them have completely normal poop now. We gave them probiotics, greens, multivitamin, acv, herbal tea and very diluted neem water once - it was all an experiment.. if they get well without vet medications, I can just count it luck..
We will start observing them for lices for next few days. We saw 2 of them on snowy in initial 2 days.. haven't again spotted.. but gave them bath in very dilute neem water - one drop of diluted neem water (made of boiled neem leaves) in 150 ml of water.. not sure if that might have helped.. I know lice reproduction cycle is 10 days.. and it has been 10 days.. I'm not sure what to expect and see.. for ivermectin, i have seen it written on the package that it shouldn't be used on budgies younger than 3 months.. and i am not sure about the age. The meds are to arrive, fingers crossed that it doesn't get blocked at customs..
