I've just read the whole thread mona. You are wonderful for taking in these little birdies. I'm so sorry that Greenie left you but you are doing so well taking care of the other two. I'm glad they are improving. Poor little things.

mona this sounds wonderful! If you see what you think is lice, try to look at it with a magnifying glass - it could just be dander especially if they are molting. They sound like two happy birdies and they should be with you.

I’m sure you know the possible side affects and toxicity of neem much better than I do, mona, but just want to add a word of caution to anyone who may read and think it is safe for parrots. It is considered toxic to children, so please be very careful, which I’m sure you have been, given your comment of a very dilute neem water.

Thank you for the advice Hezz. We are being careful. Apart from being very dilute, we have used it once in 5 days.. tweetiepiesmom I'm sure it wasn't dander. I have a video of them eating millets on my hand and I saw something crawling on the feathers.. I had it captured on a video, but i cannot find that again.. I will attach it in a while - maybe it's in my mom's phone..

Looking through the videos for lices on snowy, I found ones with greenie a few hours before he went. We were clueless about his health 😔 Just thought that he was a bit disturbed due to change of environment..Please ignore our chats in the video.. We were just talking about how cookie breezie have checked if my fingers are edible.
He checked my hands thoroughly before deciding to sleep there. He must have been feeling warm. I think that's also the reason these two are super afraid of my hands now, thinking I took him away - must have done something. I don't mind it though, until it's medically urgent..

Poor little Greenie, he seemed to want a safe place to sleep, like a nest.

Sweet videos. Marianne Marlow I agree - a warm comfy nest like a hand. They might have lice, you'd know better than us because you are right there with them. Fortunately its not so bad that you see it on their cere. Hopefully the treatment you're giving them gets rid of it. Hope the ivermectin goes through customs OK.

If the budgies do have lice, mona, it is more than likely that you will also be able to see their nits on their feathers. If there are no nites, it is doubtful that what you saw were lice, just by their life-cycle. The nits may be hard to see on Snowy’s white feathers, and I’m sure you aren’t wanting to be catching these two up to comb through their feathers for nits. . Apparently the best way to see nits and lice on a bird is to hold the wing up to a bright light and check the underside of the wing, something I feel sure you won’t be doing any time soon.

That does seem difficult to do right now Hezz.. I'm afraid they can be traumatized with such experience.. plus they stop eating food once something like that happens.. 🤦♀️ I hope what I saw wasn't lice. But only on day one, I saw a white colored insect near her eye skin and it went away into her feathers once I tried blowing it off. Also, I read that new born lices are white in color and they turn red/brown once they suck blood.. I really hope I'm wrong and it's not lice.. Tbh, I had lice in my hair once as a kid from a school mate.. It was indeed terrible but we could at least comb and use a shampoo intended for the lices. Mom would find the nits in the hair and kill them. It happened only once, and I had even forgotten about it. So, I empathize with snowy and know how irritating it must be for her..

Bird lice are more chewers than suckers - they feed mostly on the dander of the feathers and skin, rather than the bird’s blood, but they can of course make the bird itchy and irritable and possibly prone to mutilating its own feathers.

We decided to name them finally based on their personality.
Meet Milli (Bluey) 💙 and Reva (Snowy) 🤍. Both are definitely female, based on their behavior - arguments, all day shredding and less singing/chirping..
Milli means amiable and Reva means rain. Milli is affectionate indeed. Reva can be a competition to Cookie. She reminds me of thunder and rainstorm sometimes..
Wishing that they recover well and get back to normal. Can't help being attached to them

They do sound like delightful little characters. Hoping they get over whatever seems to be causing them health issues quickly.
