Personally, I have never gone the clean clothes route, BUT I would if I had a bird sick with a contagious bug. 30 days is usually considered okay - that can seem to take forever, let alone 40 days but if there is any doubt whatsoever then continue the quarantine until you are sure the bird is back to full health. With Elfie being used to having you around, and all the attention from being sick too, he could well be missing your company. Glad he going nuts, today. Noise factor from snoring - could Elfie go into the bathroom at night? I don't know how the snoring would disturb the birds. And they can't tell us! Neither of my tame birds regressed with the addition of another, but I had had them for long than you have had Elfie, so that must be considered. I think your idea of a baby used to human contact to be Elfie's companion is a good one. You may find yourself very bird-busy with taming/training the two at the same time, but apart from each other. If you know you have a month that is less busy, this would be the time to do it. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Let us know what the diagnosis is for Elf when you get him checked again. Has he been moulting? I wondered if there were some pin-feathers coming through in a couple of his photos. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

He has been shedding quite a few of the little white feathers and 3 which were a little bigger!? is this him moulting? maybe that is why he has gone a bit quieter again,as i said after he had finished his meds and he got over his cold he really came out of himself but i suppose if he is in moult its tiring for him!? ![](http://i1181.photobucket.com/albums/x422/moogiie/feathers001.jpg) I thought i could put Elf in the kitchen at night as the bathroom door is straight opposite the bedroom (were new baby will be ) and the bedroom door doesn't close properly, what you reckon, would kitchen be OK for the nights over the separation time ? I have decided it is a "must" for him to have a little friend so will be looking to get one in June/July i am already on a breeders waiting list and she sells finger tame baby's...X

5 weeks old? Sounds awfully young to me, but I am no breeder. One of the others would be best answering that, but I thought 8 weeks was about the norm. The kitchen should be fine, as it is only for the night isn't it? Yep, this is him moulting. The three bigger feathers look like wing and flight feathers to me - but that shouldn't be a problem with him flying. Occasionally they may shed too many flight feathers and have trouble flying, but this is exceptional. Usually they will lose a few, but it doesn't interfere with their flight. You may find that he loses either one or both of his long tail feathers soon too. If he loses both he will look like a stubby Elfie ![;)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/wink.png) , but again this doesn't interfere with flying. Because growing feathers is a energy draining time for birds, a little egg-food given every day for the duration is good to keep their protein levels up. It can also send them quiet and grumpy for a while too.

Eggfood - either, Moogie. I have some dry food that I try to give to the birds when they are moulting and I was feeding it to Bluey for the month or so before he died, as he was quite skinny. But if I had boiled egg for myself I would take out some yolk and mix that through as well. A whole egg is such a lot for one little budgie unless you eat the rest yourself, whereas the dry stuff you can just make up a tinsey amount (I put onto a plastic container lid - it's easy for them to get to) and not waste too much. If Elfie will eat it dry you can sprinkle it over his seed, but if you serve it to him moist, remember to remove it before the end of the day. Most people with a number of budgies, who are cooking up eggs for them, mash up the whole egg, even the shell once the membrane has been removed, but because I was only interested in getting protein into Blue I only gave him some yolk. If I wasn't so slack with the camera, I should show you Sparky's face the last few days - he is a Spikey, not a Sparky ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) , and now Smudge is losing feathers too - flight feathers plus a tail feather this morning. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

He wouldn't look at me while I had the camera - this was the best I could do. ![](http://i1107.photobucket.com/albums/h381/phmax/Budgeriagars/DSCF1041.jpg)

He looks a little fierce there, doesn't he? His poor head is probably about twice as bad as it seems in that photo, but a front on view was out of the question. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png)

Moogie, he had a few pins showing through one day, but almost overnight he went to looking like this. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) And has been for a couple of days now. Poor little guy is not his normal self - he is spending most of his time in the cage - I bring him out and sometimes he doesn't even fly around before going back home, just goes straight back to the cage. ![:-/](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/undecided.png) Of course, I agree totally - he is beautiful, adorable and cute. He is still chatty but I do wonder if he is under the weather both from his moult and still missing Blue. Just not his normal active self. Poor boy! ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/sad.png)

Hezz, Boo is going through his moult right now, and his activity levels drastically plummeted over the Easter break. Either sat in his cage, slept, or got sookie on my shoulder. I was very worried, given his ongoing internal problems, but I'm pretty sure it is just the moult. He seems much more active today. It's probably the same with Sparky.

Well! Elfie is still extremely quite and as far as i can see-no pin feathers!? although he has been having a little moult... I have booked him back in to the vets this Saturday morning in the hope I'm worring over nothing and it is just a moult.....he hasn't been chatting or singing to his fave music at all today and although droppings are OK and eating OK just sits on his perch dosing...anyway lets see what the vet says!? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

If this is his first moult, and I take it it is, it does seem to knock them around - maybe it is because he has been a little under the weather anyway, maybe it takes them by surprise, not having gone through one before, I don't know. And those long feathers have to take more growing energy than little fluff-ball feathers. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) The vet visit isn't going to hurt, that is for sure - only your pocket! ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png) Let us know how he gets on. But I am sure he will be fine. ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)
