I just have a question……would you think it possible that Charlie has something stuck in his throat…making him wheeze and breath fast. He has now been like this for a month, saw the vet who gave him meds for a respiratory infection that didn’t do a thing. …..He is quiet and miserable as I have said. Am I clutching at straws? I am seriously thinking of taking his all the way to the avain vet again and ask her to take a look in his throat……..I realise that this could kill him,but I feel I need to know what is wrong with him before I just have him PTS…….. Am I being silly just not letting go? Be glad of options whatever they might be…..

I would have thought if he had something stuck in his throat he'd be doing the regurgitation motion to try and dislodge it. I think a tail bob can be caused by things other than an infection? It just means that something is causing them to put extra effort into breathing.
I am sorry to hear he is not improving.

I'm inclined to agree with blueelephant, I don't think an object stuck in the throat would manifest this way. I just wish that someone could tell you (and us) what the issue actually is. It's so hard for you to hang in limbo like this.

I agree, if he had something stuck, you’d know.
It’s all so horrible not knowing the problem. We’d all be still searching like you are, for any glimmer.
Purely my opinion, I don’t think the long journey would do him any favours and not sure the vet would find anything more, unfortunately. The if I did this or if I hadn’t done that, is any pet owner’s nightmare.
We’re all with you and Charlie, praying for a turnaround.

He is tail bobbing a lot and making the regurgitation motion a lot too. My worry about taking on the long journey is that she would want to keep him in and do tests. She did tell me last time that it could prove very costly and not give any results . I absolutely can’t keep going on that journey. I might phone her tomorrow and have a word and explain just that..

It's a shame that you can't give him oxygen or use a nebuliser to see if it helps his breathing.
I don't know anything about that kind of thing for birds though :/

Other thing that comes to mind is Trichomoniasis. But I would have thought your vet would recognise that. TRICHOMONIASIS Vomiting and regurgitation. Weight loss with increased appetite - birdsoften select the smallest seed to eat as it is less painful. White plaques and/or cheesy material in the crop and trachea. Being "fluffed up" Green diarrhoea. Dyspnoea. Poor growth in young birds. www.birdexoticsvet.com.au/factsheets/2020/6/6/trichomoniasis

It might explain Charlie's condition. I'm going to mention this to my vet. Some of the symptoms match what Patch went through and what Squeak appears to be experiencing.

A lot of those symptoms fit with Charlie…..I am not getting my hopes up too much, but I have arranged for the vet to give me a call tomorrow for a chat. What would I do without all you wonderful people on this site xxxx

FYI, trichomonas has a fishy smell and you would smell this on his breath.
Does Charlie get any form of iodine? A nibble on an iodine block once in a blue moon doesn’t really count. A seed diet contains very little iodine and birds can suffer from hypothyroidism the same as we can, causing the thyroid gland to swell, what is known as a goiter.
