This 'illness ‘ he has is so cruel. This morning he came and sat with me as usual and ate his special breeders food, he then just sits there for over half an hour not talking or moving until I have to put him back in his cage. He just sits in the corner of his cage not moving much……I made him some egg and he ate some of that, and I have seen him eat some seed…….It is now lunchtime and he is just sitting in the doorway of his cage. He may come out and sit with me later , I just don’t know………He seems to get more energy late afternoon……So is it borno virus or something else….I am never going to know.

It's horrible not knowing what is going. Since it hasn't been cured by antibiotics and anti fungal medication it may well be virus. It's frustrating that there are so few treatments available for budgies even when we do know what is wrong with them.
There are tests available for borno virus - antibody testing and PCR test- but both need a blood sample, and then there is no cure for borno virus.
It's so sad seeing a little friend declining. I really wished there was something I could have done for Dean Stockwell with is PBFD, but there is no cure for that either.

Criswell you are right, it is definitely the not knowing……The avain vet was very unwilling to do blood tests on him, saying it might not prove anything , and it was likely that he could die having it….. and yes there is no cure if it is borno. I suppose it’s that little voice at the back of my mind thinking he has something that could be cured. As I have said, I will give him the last dose of antibiotics this week then no more……I honestly think he is just slipping away and my big hope is that he would just slipp peacefully in his sleep…. He has just been out and had a chew at my necklace and sat on my iPad listening to himself talk…and now back in his cage asleep…

ladybird, I can't tell you how sorry I feel every time I read an update about this brave little boy of yours. I pray that someday I'll read that he has bounced back and is his little happy self again. I feel for you too, we all know how much you love Charlie. If only we could perform our own miracles for these little guys.

ladybird, I've just listened to the first podcast from Haith's by Chris Snell. He is very knowledgeable in all things relating to budgies, and whilst listening to him, you and Charlie sprang to mind Could you maybe send him an email and ask his advice regarding Charlie. And see if he can help.

I also keep hoping and praying that Charles will bounce back. I do believe that for the moment at least that he wants to live.

Charlie is really worrying me now. This last week he has really gone down. He has stopped talking and just mainly he sleeps a lot. He does want to come out from time to time and has a little play but soon gets tired……..I have noticed that he sounds a bit wheezy too. I have stopped the Baytril because it just isn’t helping and he just has Metacam occasionally……….This morning I phoned the vets to see if I could have a word with the Avian vet and they have asked for her to phone me on Friday… She isn’t in until then…..There is no way I can get to see her because I have been having injections in my spine and am in a lot of pain….But she might be able to suggest something to help him…….She isn’t very good at calling , so will have to wait and see…….Forgot to add he seems to be eating OK but does feel skinny…..He is such a worry 😢

I am so sorry for both you and Charlie. As someone who has severe back problems, I know how bad it can be. I hope these injections help you alot.
I also feel so bad for Charlie. I hope the AV does call you Friday and can give you some advice that will help Charlie.

The Avain vet won’t speak to me on the phone because it’s 12 weeks since she saw him….I explained I can’t get there ( it’s a 70 mile round trip) she has sent his records to our local vets……..I havnt phoned them yet but just know they will want to see him too…..and by their own admission they don’t know much about budgies…….So I am stuck…….He is still eating but then just sleeps. I can hear him wheezing a bit too…..I have stopped the Baytril but wondering if I should start again…..I really feel he needs a change of antibiotics but I just can’t do anything….It’s horrible 😢

What a horrible feeling of helplessness, Ladybird. I'm so sorry. Poor Charlie. I feel so sad for you both and cross I can think of no way to help.
