Thank you…..he has definitely had our full attention and TLC…..We haven't been away this year because he needed us . He has, and still does give us so much pleasure.

Thank you everyone……..I absolutely understand what Hezz is saying but with Charlie it’s not really straightforward . He has been on antibiotics on and off since April……… Firstly for two weeks…then he had a full month on them… He then seemed Ok for a while. The vet as you know is pretty sure he has borno and the only treatment is to give them intermittent antibiotics. It won’t cure it just dampens down the symptoms, until .it won’t anymore I suppose. So I am guessing really but it’s comforting for me to have the help that I get from all you lovely people…..xxxxx And this is what you are doing … following the vet’s recommendations.

Its been awhile since we've heard about Charlie (unless I missed something). How is the little guy doing? Hoping he's settled into a new normal for him.

Charlie isn’t too good again. A few days ago he had a seizure that lasted about 10 minutes. His wing was shaking and his tail bent at an angle…Naturally he was very quiet for the rest of the day. He sleeps a lot now and doesn’t have much energy and he isn’t talking much. He still comes out and sits with me, he like me to talk to him and he sits with his head touching my mouth……He is eating well and I am pretty sure he isn’t in any pain….but he definitely seems to be gradually getting worse………I keep hoping he will perk up again, and he may just do that….but it’s so upsetting….especially as I don’t know for sure what is wrong , so I constantly feel I could be doing more for him. 🥲

I'm sorry that Charlie had another seizure. Sounds similar to the big one George had last year. I'm glad he's still eating and enjoying your company. Hoping for yet another Charlie miracle recovery. I'm not sure what more you could do for him, you are giving him great comfort. Is he still eating the breeder food and other soft mashes and things?

Yes Marianne he loves the breeders food, he is eager to come out at breakfast time and sit with me and eat it. He has a good feed and then falls asleep on my shoulder.

I’m sorry he’s gone through that again. He gets such comfort from you, which is lovely. It’s good he’s still eating, I hope he perks up again.

You’re a brilliant mum to Charlie ladybird. He clearly gets comfort and love from you. To focus on the positives, it’s great he’s still enjoying the breeder’s food and wants to come out, even if it’s just to snuggle in with you. I’m so sorry the seizures continue; I wish so much they’d stop. We’re all hoping something changes but he’s got a strong sense of survival considering all he’s been through for months, so I hope while he’s happy to keep fighting to recover, you’ll be able to stop self-doubting and continue doing as you are - giving Charlie all the love he needs.

Charlie isn’t improving at all. He is eating ok but just sits sleeping a lot, has no energy at all. Every now and again he comes out to sit with me and has a little play . He has just flown back on top of his cage and talked for about 10 mins and then preened himself. I keep asking myself has he got much quality of life and know one day I will have to make that dreadful decision……….. I think I am going to give him another week of antibiotics and Metacam……after that if he doesn’t improve, I will have to do something……..It’s so difficult because he has been up and down since April……..Just this time he hasn’t really improved…. Don’t think he has any pain, just no energy……OH it’s horrible.

I feel that if he isn't in pain and is still eating and interacting with you (wanting to sit with you) then I'd put off the decision.
Just my opinion though, you know Charlie better than anyone.

Sending much love and sympathy for you! I know it must be horrible to even think about making that decision but you have the wisdom and strength to know what to do.

whilst he’s eating, interacting, talking and preening, try not to think about it. You know him, but just my thoughts, that he’s not suffering.
He’s a remarkable boy with a remarkable mum

I agree with the others that no one knows Charlie better than you ladybird. I think knowing he isn’t likely to return to the old Charlie, do you feel he is having a quality of life now? The fact he’s eating and coming out to talk a little to you and have a cuddle suggests he isn’t in insufferable pain. Does he still like his disco ball and sit with the bell on his head? Thinking of you.

I'm so sorry that you and Charlie are going through this. He is such a wonderful boy. I know it is going to be a really hard decision for you to make and you know Charlie best. It's horrible for you seeing him declining but it good that he still chats and comes to sit with you and isn't suffering. Hugs to you both xx
