Hezz Honestly I've never thought about doing that. This is the first time I've had to give multiple, though, and work would have strung me up for doing that with the kids' medicines. š¤£ I might try it sometime. The bigger dose medicine is nearly gone anyway. I'll see what happens when the blood results come back.

Yeah, I know it isnāt āgood practiseā but you canāt reason with a budgie and tell them to stay still and drink their meds because itās good for them. I canāt remember who it was that I had to give MeloxIcam and antibiotics together and the vet did say that doing the two together was fine if it made things easier for me. Good luck for the blood tests, not sure whether finding something or finding nothing is better.

Hezz Only because in work we had to have someone double-check so you had to draw everything up separately. I think the funniest thing was if you had to give multiple via NG tube and they wanted you to flush with water between so the meds didn't mix, like they weren't all going into the stomach together! Anyway, getting off point of the thread. Fingers crossed that you won't need antibiotics or not for long, blueelephant, and that Toby plays ball.

Just separated Squeak from the Flock in readiness for her vet trip this morning. I had my hand on her in the cage, with everyone still dozing but she slipped away at the last millisecond. In the end I had a budgie tornado around the room and managed to pluck her out with the net. She's chirping a little sorrowfully in her little travel cage now. The boy buds were all doing "You OK?" calls to each other just after the drama and are starting to sing more normally now. If I were a drinking man I would have a stiff drink around now.

Well Toby has started on his Amphotericin B treatment. First dose went down fine. He took his anger out (at being grabbed while having a nap) by biting the syringe. The offered forgiveness millet was glared at with a look of, if you think you're buying me off with that you've got another thing coming.
He felt very thin ā¹ļø. Really prominent keel. He was 38g last Wednesday and is 40g today so I hope we can move more in the right direction. I had weighed him a fortnight before the vet and he was 44g so he'd dropped a lot pretty quickly.
He's singing away now. Twice a day meds is going to get hard if he gets savvy to what's coming!

Toby has always had a mind of his own, hasn't he? Hope the medicine goes down well, works and he doesn't continue to fight it.

Perhaps you can mix up how you dose him if things become more difficult - meds on a bobble (very small bobble) of millet, or on a piece of apple, even let it soak into a crumb or biscuit or bread. Of course these last arenāt the best food for him but if needs must ā¦ Better he gets his meds and a little extra āfat foodā is not going to do him harm at this stage.

Well after two very cooperative doses I got properly shouted at this evening. I don't think I've ever heard a budgie shout so loud. To be fair I'd shout loud if someone plucked me off my perch while I was having a nap...

I feel like shouting at you too.
In the middle of a nap? Monstrous!

In my defense, he's doing an awful lot of napping at the moment so my options are limited...

I made sure Sky had put some weight on before he started Amphotericin B as I read that it can make them lose weight and he really didn't have any to lose.
I would give him hard boiled, mashed egg and millet every day to try and keep his weight up.
