Is Buddy a very small budgie? 25g sounds quite light. Even my Monty, who was tiny, was more than 30g. These little guys really hate being caught, don't they! I took Buddy in for his annual exam this week. Normally he gives me a warning nibble but this time, he bit down when I grabbed him to put him in the travel cage. When the vet reached in to pull him out for his exam, she said, 'ouch, he bit me!' The good news is he's healthy, proper weight (25gms ), good pec muscle development and shiny healthy feathers. She approved of his diet and he is a good eater, eating a variety of foodsl

Marianne Marlow every time I post my guys' weight I get that reaction! Yes, they both are small but its typical for the American type budgie. Tweetie Pie is around 29gms.

I weighed Barney the other day. He is 2.4 Buddys!
(Not quite sure how to pluralise Buddy grammaticality correctly 😂)
Buddies? Buddy's? Buddys?

He lulls me into a false sense of security by taking them one night, then being all calm the next night, only to have me loosen my grip, because he's 'a good boy' and 'he's being so calm'. He then of course barrel rolls to try and shoot out of my hand. I need to learn not to be manipulated by his seeming cooperation 😂

You are doing such a great job for Toby. I've just caught up with the whole thread and I'm so sorry that Toby hasn't responded as well to his treatment as he might have. I hope he likes his new sprout diet and that it helps him put on some weight. It's great that he likes groats and it's a lovely photo of him tucking into his egg.
Budgies are so good at avoiding medicine. Randolph Carter was especially skilled at the beak clamp and turtle neck combination but he was relatively easy to catch. Dexter is very difficult to catch as he is so agile and will fly around the cage and then squeeze out of the cage door past the catchers arm and take refuge up on top of the speaker just below the ceiling meaning we have to leave the room for a while until he comes down. Once caught though Dexter is fairly compliant.

These budgies have some wicked skills when it comes to avoiding things they don't like!

Once you get into the routine of sprouting, I think you'll find its no problem. Ask away!

Gwen is 1.5 Asters blueelephant Sorry that you're having so much trouble with Toby. Hopefully in time, if you have to keep this up, he'll realise that it's all over quicker if he just accepts it.
