Herman when his beak was first noticed: Herman just now: The bruise in the second pic (although appearing darker to the eye than to the camera) is clearly lighter in colour and possibly, covers less of Herman's beak than previously. The dark pigment on his claws looks similarly reduced. These changes don't really help me understand what has happened to Herman but it must surely be a good sign that the bruising, if that is what it is, is receding.

Yes, it is a good sign that the discoloration is receding. Pictures are worth a thousand words!

Definitely fading, which I hope is good news and it won’t show up again. Handsome Herman, he’s very photogenic.

I'm glad the vet wasn't concerned about Herman and that the discolouration is receding. For some reason I can't see any of your photos.

Thanks, criswell. I can't think why the pics aren't appearing for you, I believe others can see them (correct me if I'm wrong!)

Herman continues to look improved although the camera is lying a little and makes his beak discolouration look less than it is to the naked eye. I thinks his claws look better too.

Does it look like the discoloration is lower on his beak - moving down with the beak growth? I sometimes have trouble loading your photos and get an error message that Postimages may be misspelled. May be the difference in spelling from British English and American English.

May be the difference in spelling from British English and American English. I think you're right, the beak discolouration seems to be moving South and the same is true for the nails. I too get occasional problems with PostImages but some of the pics have been hosted elsewhere so there may be a different issue going on there.

Herman is a handsome chap. I'm glad the discolouration is growing out.

Herman's beak continues to look better.
His behaviour has changed, too. Prior to noticing his discoloured beak, he'd been spending much of his time on his own, secluded away from the flock. This behaviour continued for several days after his vet visit. The past few days have seen him more his sociable old self. This afternoon he has been following Hector around, trying to feed him. It's bee a little sweet and a little comical.
I find myself thinking that Herman has turned a corner and is feeling better now.
