Yesterday I noticed Max was not as active as normal, but I thought it was the heat as it was very warm here. Today, his droppings the morning were odd, larger than normal with a lot of white, possibly slightly yellow too. I witnessed him squat to do a dropping. Also he seemed slightly out of breath after flying. I have made an appointment to the Royal veterinary college for later on today. Will have to get Ubers as I do not drive and don't want to use public transport for such a long journey. attached a photo of this mornings droppings. As per usual he's started acting more lively since I made the appointment!

Poor boy Max, I hope it’s something that gets sorted with some meds. Be a good boy for the vet.

It's not great news. The vet thinks that Max is a very sick bird. Max was breathing really heavily on the way to the vets (he also was stressed at being in the box) when he got there, the vet had to put him on oxygen for 30 minutes just so he could examine him. He said that he could feel some sort of mass in his abdomen/chest but he could not be sure what it was. Could be liver issues, even pssitacosis was mentioned although he said that as no other budgie is displaying symptoms this is unlikely. He wanted to keep Max in and give him an xray and blood tests, but as that would mean anaesthesia I was not comfortable with it, if Max has breathing issues already I did not think he would survive this Hope I did not make the wrong decision. He has given me doxycycline (antibiotic) and meloxidyl (anti-inflamatory) and wants me to email to let him know how Max is tomorrow.

That is very worrying, Marianne, I'm sorry it wasn't better news.
I hope that the meds can and will help Max recover his health. As for the procedures, you are best placed to decide on them. As ever, you have to weigh up the risks of treatment vs "what condition could I hope to discover that is something I can do anything about?"
Hoping very hard for you and for Max.

That’s not good. I would have done the same re no anaesthesia. I hope the meds help and he’s calmer now. Poor Max x

He's a lot more lively now he's home and relaxed a bit. He's preened a lot to get the human smell off him!

The vet impressed me actually. Worth the extortionate amount I had to pay (but I did get an appointment the same day within a few hours so I guess that is to be expected). Expensive day. I really hope the meds will help Max to recover. Thank you ffiscool, I am glad to hear you say that you would have made the same decision as I have ummed and arred over it a lot since I left the vets. I was on my own and either of the decisions had a consequence, I'm either not doing enough or I am doing too much but with a high risk to Max.

He's such a lovely boy is Max. I'm willing him to quickly recover.
(I would have made the same decision as you, Marianne, for whatever that is worth.)
