I keep switching to my stupid head these days. It's happening much more regularly now!

I wouldn't consider seeds/food recommended for wild birds as necessarily suitable for our budgies, due to differing dietary requirements. High fat, high calorie might be OK for wild birds who are by necessity highly active. The same diet could be unhealthy for our relatively sedentary buds. I'm no expert though so take my thoughts with a pinch of scepticism. Wiser heads than mine might have different advice. That is the scientific thinking. Wild food is high calorie, low nutrition. The calories get burned off in the course of the birds flying kilometers in search of their next food source, until they've met their nutrient requirements for the day. Seed is so high calorie, 3.8kcal/g, that indoor birds reach their calorie allowance to balance their losses for the day having hardly eaten anything. Like us with chocolate. Got your calories sorted, but not your nutrition and you're still hungry because it wasn't filling.

Marianne Marlow Hezz has recommended foreign finch mix as usually being more appropriate. Haith's occasionally changes the contents of their mixes, however.

I've definitely got my procrastinating head on at the moment. I've been trying to put together an online order for 2 days now.
Dexter is very fond of nyger seeds which probably isn't the best for his lipoma.
I hope Max's breathing and droppings look better tomorrow. I'm glad it's not getting him down too much that he's not well.

Good point Ira about Haith's changing their mixes. I am sure I enquired about the ingredients before and it didn't have biscuit or some of the other things in it. But I cannot find the email so I may have used their chat function. Thank you criswell. Yes, if Dexter has a lipoma then I guess the nyger seeds are not good for him either. It's funny cos I am not sure if any other others, apart from Max even notice those seeds.

Max doesn't trust me after me medicating him this morning. Who can blame him really. It's a bit upsetting, but I can work on the trust after making him well.

Is his medication once or twice a day? I'm sure he will soon trust you again once the medicating is over.

It's once a day for the doxycycline and twice a day for the anti-inflammatory. Hope so. Is his medication once or twice a day? I'm sure he will soon trust you again once the medicating is over.

Its interesting what some will eat and others won't. Neither of my two will eat the nyger seeds, the little black seeds get left in their food dish.

My boys all trusted me again after they'd had courses of medicine, so I'm sure Max will. He's such a cheeky boy I'm sure he'll want to play with you again soon

A routine might help with the trust, once it's been established for Max to recognise. I have a specific hoodie I only ever wear to catch the budgies so they know when it's 'bad hands' time.

Just seen this, poor Max and you M.
He looks pretty good but then they are good at pretending as we all know. Everything crossed the meds work their magic 🤞

Gosh, I am just catching up! So sorry to hear Max is poorly. It's horrible when they are not well. I am glad he seems better today. Fingers crossed the antibiotics help.

Poor little Max and you too Marianne Marlow for the stress and worry. I really hope Max responds well to the meds and he can recover. It can be so difficult to make decisions for them but I would also have brought him home as I can not see how being away with a stay at the vets nor an anaesthetic is going to help them unless absolutely and completely necessary. Plus if things did take a turn for the worse I know I’d rather have him with me so I could care and comfort the best I could rather than have him miles away feeling alone. But sending all positive thoughts your way so Max can get past this and with maybe a few adaptions to his diet, he may do a George and show indomitable spirit and a zest for life.
