So sorry to read that Max has been unwell, enough for a vet visit.
Was going to say that Nyjer seeds are high fat. It is an oil seed. If it is suspected to be fatty liver disease, I’d be giving him the milk thistle every day, especially in the beginning to give his liver a break and time to do some healing.

I'd have to do the same for everyone as they all drink the same water, would that be ok? So sorry to read that Max has been unwell, enough for a vet visit. Marianne Marlow milk thistle is fine for everyone to have. Yuki did a big green poop last night, so it could be liver.

He looks ok, how’s his breathing or how’s he in himself, other than the hating meds bit?

I can see that his breathing is a little laboured. He has periods when he just sits still and then he'll perk up and start bashing bells and balls. Still preening and eating ok. Did a watery dropping shortly after he had the meds. Tomorrows droppings will tell the tale I guess. He had some basil earlier. I've spent a considerable amount of time picking out nyger seeds from the tip top mix so I can give a nyger free mix from tomorrow. I don't really want to chuck away good seed, but at the same time don't want him to keep eating fatty seeds. I think we'll go back to the foreign finch food mix from haiths as I believe that doesn't have nyger seeds, will take a look. I think the egg food has them too, what a pain. He looks ok, how’s his breathing or how’s he in himself, other than the hating meds bit?

Is there a reason not to offer Haith's "UK budgie club" mix seeds?

Might have to as the foreign finch mixture isn't suitable. Just asked haith's what it contains "Hello Marianne, the mix contains the following: linseed, Japanese millet, nigerseed, sesame seed, yellow millet, rapeseed oil, red millet, pearl white millet, naked oats, panicum millet and yellow biscuit (breadcrumbs). Hope this helps. " Is there a reason not to offer Haith's "UK budgie club" mix seeds?

I wouldn't consider seeds/food recommended for wild birds as necessarily suitable for our budgies, due to differing dietary requirements. High fat, high calorie might be OK for wild birds who are by necessity highly active. The same diet could be unhealthy for our relatively sedentary buds.
I'm no expert though so take my thoughts with a pinch of scepticism. Wiser heads than mine might have different advice.
