You're taking appropriate actions, Ladybird. Buddy couldn't receive better care

Oh bless poor little Buddy. I’m so sorry you’re going through more worry ladybird. I once had a chicken who got very poorly and took the same stance with her wings just like that and she literally used them like crutches to support her as she’d lost her balance. So I wonder if it’s neurological considering the seizures he’s previously suffered. I really hope it clears up and Buddy has more energy tomorrow. Why do things always happen when it’s a bank holiday and you can’t use the car?!

When they are poorly with something clearly not diet related there is no wrong food. Give him whatever he will eat to help him keep his weight up. If he has any favourites then get them out. This is what my vet told me.

I'm glad Buddy started feeling better. I hope he feels brighter in the morning after a good sleep

Welll it’s odd because Buddy is back to his normal lively chatty self today. Naturally I am relieved yet very on edge because this has happened twice now and yesterday he really was Very unwell. I can see he has lost weight but he is eating really well again now. I would definitely take him to the vet if only I could get there……..but seeing him today he seems perfectly healthy .

I'm glad Buddy is feeling more himself today, Ladybird but these episodes are of course very worrying.
I wish I was able to usefully speculate what the issue might be but you need expert advice. Do you have videos of the times when Buddy has symptoms? Could these videos be shared with a local vet (and then on to an avian vet, hopefully?)

I don’t have a vidio Loz just the picture I put on here……if it happens again I will vidio it. I suppose I could phone the avain vet we used with Charlie and explain my situation and see what they say….after all we did spend hundreds with them last year!

I agree, Ladybird! If you cannot travel, a video is the best bet for getting a vet to take a proper interest as vets are almost always unwilling to commit themselves when they haven't seen the patient.

I'm pleased that Buddy it feeling like himself today. It is very strange. I hope he doesn't have another episode for a long time. I absolutely understand you being on edge. I agree it would be a good idea to video him if he does have another episode.

He has the best Mum Ladybird and you are doing the right things for him. I think ringing the vet Charlie had is a good idea and I hope Buddy continues to improve. We all doubt ourselves when it comes to the best thing for our budgies, that’s because we love them so much xxx

Buddy still isn’t well, in as much as I can see he is loosing weight…..but he is lively and talking and was eating OK…..BUT I racked my brains and wondered if it could be the bedding we use for the bottom of his cage that has started to affect him in some way. It is for birds and is called easy chick…very soft wood chipping but it does have a slight smell……anyway here now is my problem and wanted to ask for advice…….We took the easy chick out and just lined the bottom with newspaper…..but he will NOT go down to the bottom of the cage now where his feeding dishes are. We did this yesterday and I watched him all day and last night I gave in and put a water dish and his seed at the top of the cage and he tucked in like mad. Today I have removed it thinking he will get hungry and go down and feed but so far he hasn’t……. He is sitting in the corner where I give him millett just waiting and I am sitting here feeling guilty……should I just give in? The easy chick bedding does seem to have a strong smell this time, but it is probably nothing to do with him being not well…….But I don’t think he is going to give in and stand on anything else….

Is there a reason why the food and water bowls have to be on the floor?
Unless I have a bird that cannot perch or is in danger of falling, I always have the bowls bolted to the bars, higher up in the cage. Just below the level of the highest perches.

Do you have any little seed pots that you can hang on the side of the cage and put his food and water in those higher up?

Buddy most likely needs time to get used to looking at the newspaper. I would put the food and water bowls up where he can easily get them. You might put them at the bottom in a couple days to see if he's gotten used to looking at the newspaper.
