Buddy was ill about three weeks ago….his wings went droopy and his feet and I thought he had had had a seizure Whatever it was only lasted about half an hour. I did take him to a vet and he thought infection in air sacs but I wasn’t convinced. He gave him antibiotics to put in his water and he was back to his old self in a day or so………….I have thought this last week that he seemed to have lost a bit of weight but he has been eating and very active…. NOW, this morning he was playing happily and running up my arm and then suddenly went quiet and both his wings dropped right down and he stayed like that with his eyes closed……..after a while I put him back in his cage and he had a fall to the bottom of his cage, I put him Bach on a low perch and he hasn’t moved at all . He started at 9 o’clock so it’s been 4 hours now. His wings are in but he looks bad. I am frantic as what to do…..it’s bank holiday and I still can’t drive so going to a vet is impossible. He is only 10 months old , my poor boy I feel I will loose him…🥲

Horribly worrying and upsetting, Ladybird.
I cannot imagine what you can do other than keep Buddy safe and comfortable as far as you can. I'm not certain what a vet can do other than repeat the antibiotics, which may or may not have helped last time.
Please be strong and hopeful that Buddy can pull through this again. My heart breaks for your worry over this lovely little lad.

I'm so sorry, Ladybird. Poor little Buddy.
I really hope Buddy can pull through this again. It's good that he's holding his wings up now. I wish there was something I could suggest to help. Thinking of you both.

I keep thinking it’s something I must be doing especially after loosing my beautiful Charlie last year. I am maybe guilty of giving him too much millet and perhaps his tonic seed….I am aware of the dangers of Teflon when cooking and have sometimes forgotten to close the kitchen door , he has never been in the kitchen when I am cooking….I think I am trying to blame myself but Charlie’s symptoms where nothing like this………. His wings are down again ….I have just offered him a drink but he doesn’t want to know, and a bobble of millet, but no and that’s a first……

It's not you, Ladybird. There's always a risk with our budgies that they came to us with an unseen issue that reveals itself over time.
I've had two young budgies pass, and yes I have felt the pangs of guilt that I did something wrong or didn't do something right. It's just normal human nature to experience that.
No one can doubt your love, for Charlie and for Buddy. You have looked after both of them as well as anyone can expect. Some things are just beyond our control.
Hope for the best, Ladybird.

How worrying and upsetting for you and Buddy. If you called your vet, they’re bound to have an out of hours person somewhere. They could look at Buddy’s notes maybe?
Might be able to suggest something. If it’s a repeat of the a/b, perhaps a prescription could be sent to a local place so you could collect?

I'm so sorry to hear of your worries, ladybird.
I'm sure it's not you. We never know the full history of our budgies, or their complete genetics.
Yuki's been a bit dodgy ever since I got him. Some of his liver issues may be my fault, but it might also have been something he was predisposed to.

I'm so sorry to read that Buddy is unwell. I know what it feels like to feel helpless over their health issues. As ffiscool said, have you called your vet, they might have an out of hours vet or a number you can call.

I just phoned them and explained the situation and they said there is no vet there until Tuesday and they could not dispense me the medicine he had last time…..yes they do have an out of hours vet I could go to……and it’s about an hours drive from me ( near where Barney came from ) ……So that’s out of the question unfortunately…….. They are not Avain vets anyway I didn’t have a lot of faith in the vet I took Buddy to where we live. The vet Charlie had was very good, but again it’s a long drive. I am not allowed to drive after surgery on my eyes………I am seeing the specialist in September and it could be that I won’t ever drive again. I have glaucoma and if it’s progressed my licence will be gone. So life isn’t great just now. Fingers crossed for me please 🙏🏻

Im sorry Buddy is unwell again, it's a strange set of symptoms for sure, the way it comes on so suddenly it could be something neurological, my little Bertie used to take seizures, they would come out of the blue and after 2-3 hours he would be fine, just reminds me of him.

I've got fingers crossed for you, Ladybird. I hope the glaucoma has been arrested and there's been no further degradation of your sight I share your frustration regarding available vets. It makes me so mad at times.

Oh ladybird I am so sorry that that you can't get to the vet and you don't have faith in them and also about your eyesight. You're having a lot thrown at you at the moment. Fingers and wings crossed here for you and Buddy x

I am so sorry to hear this. It absolutely will not be anything you are doing so please don't think that. I would give warmth as best you can and company so he feels safe. Sending love and keeping everything crossed he seems better soon. X

Later this afternoon he picked up and started moving around his cage. I watched him eat and drink. They he sat on his perch eyes half closed. I let him have some red millet his favourite ( possibly I shouldn’t have?). He has been very quiet, no talking or anything, but he wanted to come out . I haven’t let him I think he needs to conserve his energy. …….I am still really worried about him he isn’t right and I am going to cover him up early for bed.
