Last night, before the birds' "bed time", my husband stuck his head into the Cockatiel cage and had a loud whistling session with Kona. We went to a few places yesterday, including a location of a pet store that we don't usually stop at. We felt sad for a lonely-looking female Cockatiel and a scared Green Cheek Conure. We need to remind ourselves that we can only save so many. And also by 'saving' them from pet shops we're also providing custom. Although Yuki came directly from the breeder and has been sick ever since I got him, whilst Indie was from one of the bigger pet stores near us that sells a lot of birds and has only needed treatment either when I've had to medicate everyone or this one time for a minor throat problem because he'd been feeding Gwen too much. (Which is just as well because that was a literal wrestling match twice a day) So unless you manage to find a really scrupulous breeder it seems pretty hit and miss about their health and well-being no matter where you go.

Squeak is now in jail and it's the very least she deserves. I have had a horrible day so far.
No birbs have been injured but there's been a lot of unpleasant behaviour, from three hens. They are working hard on getting their own exclusive, individual accommodation, upstairs.

Sounds rough, Loz. Got plenty of plasters for your fingers?

They can be mean machines when they are hormonal, there’s been some squiggly naughty interactions between my two past couple of days, I’ve made up another cage incase I have to separate them for a while 🤦🏻♀️

I agree! It's a difficult situation either way. The pet store birds could spend their whole lives at the store and die, or go home with irresponsible/careless owners (the bird is a child's toy or a "beginner pet before a puppy/kitten"). Or a good owner buys them and signals that the store should continue selling.
There are also some breeders who treat breeding like any job, and don't seem to have a passion for birds in particular.

Sprite likes to eat with me holding her food bowl. (I took this picture before putting her back in the cage and letting the Budgies out.) Pepper (left, white and grey) and Kona. Pepper was bowing his head while singing. Griffin, Nimbus, and Thunder were discussing something. Freya checked to see if a Cockatiel food bowl had anything special that was not in the Budgies' food.

It's been a while since my girls tried to find any nesting sites (hope I have not jinxed myself there)

The two jailbirds are out of prison and it's all mostly quiet.
Oh. Except for the fireworks that have just started up across the street.
Folks have had worse days than mine but I'll be bleeping glad when I've had enough of today.

Please excuse my ignorance, but why are so many fireworks going on in the UK right now? Bonfire Night?

Please excuse my ignorance, but why are so many fireworks going on in the UK right now? Bonfire Night? Yes, Bonfire Night on the 5th. But we also had Diwali just before, so they've been going off where I live since the 1st.

Same here. People letting them off just below our window. Had to close the curtains early as the budgies didn't like the loudness and brightness. Ah, that's really rough. I was fortunate that they were just far enough away that we didn't have any flashes and no one was bothered by the noise.
