Thanks Hezz. At the moment she won't go to the dishes at all, other than the oystergrit one so am not sure that would work but I'll definitely try it. And I'll get new box of Trill - might bike out to Morrisons instead of getting from Pets at Home I think... My gut feeling is that Barrie was right from the outset when he said she's had a seizure Her personality has changed and it seems more noticeable day by day She is getting randomly aggressive when out of the cage (though perhaps is just hungry!) and honestly, the seed thing, it's like she has genuinely forgotten she is meant to eat seed somehow. Like there's a blank space in her head. The noises she is making are quite different to usual... It's just little things really. It's asthough someone has secretly swapped Swann for a different bird who can imitate her but we *know* that they're different. Her poos are pale green and runny this morning But she ate lots of apple last night so that's perhaps why. Maybe wasn't the right thing to give her but she was obviously so hungry and she really seemed to enjoy it. One other thing, and I need to get a photo, but on the side of her beak she has a darker patch, it's been there quite a long time and I had wondered ages ago if it meant she had a problem with her liver? But as she seemed fine I kind of put it down to being 'stained' by eating greens I know I am a worrier, I always have been and I really hope I am wrong here and she'll settle down and we;ll have the old Swann back soon. If it was a seizure what's the outlook? Is she likely to have more?

How about de-seeding the millet, so it's loose, and putting that IN the bowl with the other regular seed.

I'm not sure I'd want to change her seed at the moment... if it was me I'd try and get Swanny back to her normal routine for now and stick with the trill which she has definitely eaten before. If at another stage you swap her seed mix a little of it in with trill and then gradually increase the ratio of the new seed until the transition is made. This will help prevent a sudden change of diet giving her an upset tummy.

You say that the noises she is making are different. In what way?
It could be important.

Stace, Sarah, Marianne, thanks Stace - that's a good idea thank you. Sarah - agreed, think swapping seed again is not a good idea, am kicking myself for offering her that other stuff at what was probably the worse possible time. I'll get a new box of Trill, just in case this current one is the problem somehow and see how we get on. Marianne - she's talking less day by day - she has a LOT of phrases and was very chatty. And the little chirpy noises and "PEEP - where have you gone I want my humans!" has stopped. The little clucky, contented-budgie noises have pretty much stopped too. Previously she would always announce she was awake in the mornings as soon as I came downstairs, before I uncovered her, wanting to get up and start the day. Now it's just silence. Ditto in the middle of the night, when I usually get up, even if I am quiet and don't put the main light on, she would make a little clucky, sleepy hello noise. Now there's nothing. Everytime I go to her cage in the mornign I am terrified she'll be just a little pile of feathers on the floor

No hoarse noises and no tailbobbing though at times she has done the neck-extending thing as if she has something stuck in her throat. I've got to go into a meeting now but thanks Marianne, I'll read up on the air sac mites. Certainly seems that makes sense - as though she has a sore throat almost. Agh, she can talk, but if only she could actually say what was hurting eh?

We're off to the vet in a little while (not an avian specialist unfortunately) - am not holding out much hope for a magical cure but we'll see. Still no seed being eaten but millet is going fine and so is spinach. And so is a LOT of oystergrit

Feel like this is turning into a bit of an epic saga - congratulations to anyone who has got this far in the thread So... the plan had been to go to the vet. I left work early in order to keep her company and.... well once she was with me she seemed to really pick up - no seed eating exactly, but lots of talking, whistling and erm... budgie self-love, if you get what I mean ;-) So we decided to put the vet on hold on condition that I went to fetch a couple of new packets of Trill on the bike, which I did. Have washed, disinfected and thoroughly rinsed all the seed pots, which now have the new Trill. She deigned to consume one of the long seeds (oats maybe?) before pootling off again. I have left 2 seed cups in there, one carefully disguised with oystergrit on the top, which is her latest obsession. Right now she is rocking out to the sublime sounds of Dave 'Honeyboy' Edwards (well, being blue and all that right? ) and *seems* much chattier, happier and herself. Both me and the OH are seriously wondering if a lot of this might be sheer loneliness... Poor little Swann. Since August she has been alone much more during the day (previously OH was on sabbatical and at home basically fulltime, now we are both out virtually all day. And ok, she has the TV on or radio, but it's not the same as proper company So, we're considering getting her budgie companion... So any budgie breeders anywhere in mid / west Wales? We have two cages and of course would do 30 day quarantine etc. Anyway, we'll see how she goes over the weekend. Please please lovely forumites, keep your fingers crossed!

Good news about Swann. Hope she is just lonesome. She knows how to get what she wants... more attention. I bet she will love a new friend and twice as much fun for you and your Oh, too. Keep us posted.

It's great that she/he is looking up, but my gut instinct would still be to get to a vet and see if there is something to be concerned about. The company/being lonely sounds promising but still, do you want to introduce another bird to her if there is the slight chance that she is ill? I am not trying to be negative here, but rather being cautious. Please keep us updated.

I think the beak may be a little long and need a trim. What do others think?

The photo is a little blurry for my old eyes to make out, Marianne. I really wouldn't like to make a guess. It also may be just the angle it is taken....?
