The vet thinks she might have a respiratory infection? He didn't seem overly concerned about the beak. She has had invermectin just in case the problem is mites (especially her itchy head). The poo samples should be back Thursday - would a liver problem show up in them? what else can they rule in / out from poo analysis?
I'm to carry on with the drops in her water.
She started off pretty sleepy in the surgery but then she became much more active, talkative, whistling, playing with the toy I'd put in - I think they thought i was completely neurotic and that there's nothing wrong!
She's had a couple of inches of millet when we got back and is now snoozing. I stupidly forgot to mention that she seems to sleep on 2 feet sometimes :-(
Don't feel we're much further forward to be honest.

If the vet thinks that she has a respiratory infection then did he prescribe Baytril? - not sure these things go away without anti-biotics?
Someone will correct me if I am wrong here.

Poo samples are mainly to pick up parasites. I think it would take a small blood sample to check liver function (I do know for a fact feacal specimens in humans are not used to detect liver damage, blood samples are the go). But the general look of the poo could give indication of many things. Plus if it is taking days they are probably running cultures on the sample to count out bacterial infections of some sort.
How old is Swanny? Not sure if you have mentioned it.....but the sleeping on two feet, it is a while since I have seen my Bluey sleep on one foot. He seems happy, healthy and normal but I just wonder if it happens with age - he is 6 years old.
I agree with Marianne about AB's for a respiratory infection. Don't know how else you would get rid of it.

No he didn't prescribe ABs Though I think he said there was AB in the shot she got on Saturday. He said he thought she was tail-bobbing, but I really don't think she is. I've been looking out for it. He said to keep her warm and try and keep the air moist - put her in the bathroom with the shower on? If anything changes I'll call them and go back but I don't have huge confidence if I am honest. There is another surgery locally, I could try there maybe. Bliddy hell :-(

The Guardian Angel (and the supaclean seed mix) has arrived - I'll try her with it as soon as I get home from work.

Sprinkled a tiny bit of GA on her new millet (which she's wolfed down quite a bit of) and a small pinch also dissolved in fresh water which she has had 2 drinks from...
Fingers crossed

Thank you both. She looks so *small*. I don't know whether its because we're keeping the house warmer (on the advice of the vet) or whether she's lost weight Agh. If the worst was to happen, I don't think I could ever bear keeping a budge again :-(

Chin up, girl! There may well have been AB's in Swanny's injection, good that you thought of that although it wouldn't hurt to double-check with him. Don't be afraid to hassle him (the vet), you do need to know.
Reason I asked about Swanny's age was that Blue is getting on a bit and I don't see him on one leg anymore. But she is just a youngster so can't be that.
I rally hope the guardian angel adds a perk to her and she gets back on track very soon. Get better, Swanny!

Thanks serz. Am so sorry you're going through something similar, it's horrible isn't it? Poor little budges, I hope they know how much we love them Swann is still with us - she's had apple, satsuma and millet today along with quite a bit of GA in her water. Am being really careful about changing her water frequently, she's on the 4th lot today I think, am worried about bacteria. I am so proud of her bravery and her ability to keep fighting. Her poo is essentially just water, it's going everywhere... But she is still playing with her beloved dangly ball toy every so often, and while she isn't talking exactly, she is still chirruping a bit. I daren't get her out tonight though - last night her flying was really slow and unsteady with two near crash landings, one on top of her cage and one on the floor. It was heartbreaking to see, she is such a beautiful little flyer usually :-( I wish I could give her a good scritchy love though, poor little mite. But she is quite grumpy and bitey with me, which I understand, although it makes me sad She hasn't touched the two lots of boiled egg and mashed broccoli I have put in today, I daren't leave it in any longer in case of spoiling. I won't give up on you Swammble, we love you so much.

Do you think it is time to get her back to the vet or at least call them and say she isn't picking up? Swanny sounds like a Trojan, but she doesn't seem to be progressing. Good luck with her, I think I would be taking her back to the vet.
