Someone once told me they thought I had knuckles like a bare-knuckle fighter! That wasn't very nice! Back to the Mac-dog, he had his first full-length walk this morning - guess who is sound asleep in his kennel??? But he is just loving being back out in the real world. The park this afternoon will be interesting.

;D ;D ;D Sam! Mick! I think they are not so bad now ....... as a kid and teen, while still living at home, which was a sheep property, everyone pitched in and helped when anything was on. We couldn't afford to hire a labourer so mum and we three kids where it. Lots of knocking around gets done in sheep yards and there was no stopping because you had knocked the skin off a knuckle - basically s**t happens, get on with it, deal with it later. Maybe I was just a clumsy clot, I don't know! But my hands were pretty bad - compared to city-bred girls with their lovely nails. I always was a tomboy. Poor Mac (back on topic) didn't have the strength to jump up into the back on the Hilux even before his romp in the park. So we do still have some muscle-building to do. But he did meet up with some of his (and my) favourite friends and had a short run around before I put him back onto the lead and lifted him up into the back and brought him home. I think he enjoyed the getting out and meeting and greeting again.

So glad the Mac is getting there Hezz, and getting out and about to meet his friends. It really takes it out of them doesn't it, horrible devils. How long did they say before full strength is re-gained?. Is this still the paralysis or is this bit down to the muscle wastage due to him not eating and moving around.

Skysmum, he didn't eat for about a week, so there is the simple starvation faction, the illness factor, and then the muscle wastage from all that plus one of the areas most affected are the back legs, so really a combination of all of the above. The rest of him isn't too bad though, he is getting back to strength in every other way, but he is still struggling with anything requiring haunch strength - such as jumping. So I guess I have to say a lot is due to the tick itself, when I look over what I have written. And while he lost weight generally, his haunches are boney.
I was told to give him at least two weeks and make sure he didn't try to be too energetic in that time. Hence the short walks every day, and keeping him on the chain until a few days ago.

So very true, Sam and Mick. He has come such a long way - two weeks ago I was really concerned as he didn't want to eat or drink, it seemed. Possibly another week with good walks and that includes a number of small hills, and he will be (hopefully) back to where he was. It really was labour-intensive, and intensive-care nursing, there for a while. But hey, it was worth it, and I think we have a slightly better relationship because of it. That's nice.
