He's not stopped eating. He seems to eat just the same as before. I think it is better because he sits on a perch rather than the edge of the bowl. I haven't heard him complain yet.

I'm glad it hasn't put him off his food OP. Have you just attached it at the end of one of his perches for him to reach?
I was wondering if I should attach them above their normal food bowls for a while so they know they're for eating from.. or am I just pandering to them too much? Lol

Be careful with Melman, nettles. Keep an eye on him and make sure he is eating ..... being the more nervous budgie, he is the one I would be worried about. And while most budgies don't have this temperament, some will literally starve themselves rather than take on something new, but this is more to do with the type of food being offered, not the receptacle that is holding the food. I would put the new one side by side with whatever he eats out of now, so he gets used to the stranger in the cage and also get to know that the stranger comes bearing gifts. EDIT: I didn't get over the page, but there's your answer anyway.

I'll do that Hezz. When i added a second food bowl, it took him over a month to even look sideways at it, even though it was EXACTLY the same as the other one! I'll keep putting seed in both original bowls with the new ones beside them. Once they're both used to them, I'll leave the old bowls empty for a few hours and see if they eat from the new ones. I'm pretty sure it won't bother Marge what her seed is served in, just as long as she doesn't have to share it!

For reaching the food I just put an extra perch in front of but a slight distance away from the silo. Actually it is a half sized perch that came with the cage. Your budgies are obviously different to mine because Joey has taken to the new feeder without hesitation.

Thanks OP, I moved some of the perches round a bit so they can reach the silo feeders when they arrive and I'll leave their usual food bowls in for a while until Melman gets used to them.. Marge would be like Joey and just go with the flow but Melman has some drama queen issues

Maybe he would benefit from some chamomile tea to calm the wee lad. And yes, it is recommended for budgies.

Lol he's a dramatic scaredy cat I've just checked my cupboards.. I went through a bit of a health kick a while back (which lasted about 15mins!) and bought green tea with lemon. Do you think they could have that? Apart from that, I only have a pot noodle and a packet of pepper sauce.. I think I may need to go shopping lol

No, skip the green tea! He will leave home if you feed him green tea - he can come stay with me ..... definitely no green tea to be found!!!

samwiseg, how do you top up seed in these? I am guessing the feeder stays where it is & you open the top & pour fresh seed in? Is that right?? And to clean you would unscrew & take out the whole thing, inside & outside parts? I like the fact that they take up less inside cage space so that means more space for putting perches & toys. For anyone considering getting the insight clean seed silo bird feeder, it may not fit a Montana cage. I was trying to fit it to my san remo & just gave up in the end. The width of the bars caused problems & also the thickness of the bars themselves did not help. I also tried on the folding cage (vertical bars) & being fussy, wanted to put it across a section that had a horizontal bar & that was getting a bit fiddly. I gave up! I put it on the horizontal bars on the ferplast (piano 6) & it fitted like a dream. It's just a pity no one is actually living in there!
